what's the difference between the colleges? I heard warren is more of an engineering college, can someone elaborate?

Colleges have nothing to do with majors or departments, although it's true that Warren has the largest number of engineers. The two big differences among the colleges are housing and GEs: where you live and what classes you have to take.

is there a possibility of changing my college? I heard revelle's GE requirements are tough and that Muir's GE requirements aren't as bad... so i kind of want to switch

Petitioning rarely works

You're stuck unless it's some dire necessity that will prompt your dean to allow the switch

I switced from ERC to Sixth, but getting into Muir is a whole different ballgame.

how does the progress go? is there a form or do you have to talk to the dean? also what kind of reason did you use in order to switch?

I wanted to ask about this as well. I'm in Revelle and I sort of chose it by random... I want to double major/take a minor but would that be a good reason to switch colleges?

There was another thread that asked about this, but the answer is generally that they don't like it. This quotation comes from the official UCSD website explanation of the six-college system, however.

Q: Can I switch to a different college?

A: Yes, after you complete the writing program and if you can demonstrate that switching to a different college will allow you to graduate with fewer academic quarters.

Here's what you have to do.

Prove that you can graduate 2 quarters early at the new college (which, if you're a Freshman will be hard to prove).

Write a one page essay as to why a switch is necessary.

Complete a course by course outline of your class schedule and prove that a switch would reduce your time at UCSD.

Be at original college for at least 2 quarters.

Have at least a 3.0 GPA (I think). There was some GPA requirement, just not sure it was 3.0.

The college you're leaving has to sign off on it.

The college you're attempting to transfer into has the choice to accept or reject you.

Other than these things, it's a breeze.

Hi, mikoyle:
I got into ERC, too, and i chose it randomly. Now that i have discovered the really intense GE's that it involves, i want to switch to another college. I am an incoming freshman, so i would have to finish 2 quarters first (as stated in your post). After doing that, can you advise me on what to do next?

Also,my current major is international relations, but im planning on changing it to a biology majors. Biology involves a bunch of science courses, so can i say that the GEs at ERC, because there are so many of them, will in a way prevent me from graduating earlier?

thanks so much
...if anybody wants to help me out here, it would be truly appreciated
