Do any of you think I will be able to get in Penn ED? If so, do you think Wharton, or college of arts and sciences? here are my stats:

Location: NJ
GPA: 96+ unweighted
99+ weighted (97.25-Fr) (98.6-So) (101.8-Jr)
Rank: (top 2%) Public School
SAT: 1310 combined (retaking-should get about 70 points higher)
AP’s: 7 (max offered)
Solid rec’s and essays

Activities:
NJ Boy’s State, HOSA-President, FBLA- Treasurer, Yearbook- Chief Editor
NHS- (two years). Over 400+ hours of community service.
Too much other stuff to think of right now… but more worthy activities and leadership roles.

4-year varsity golf, 3-year team captain, won numerous awards.
2006 World Scholar Athlete Games-Participant. (was captain of winning team.) Capable of getting recruited, but most likely too late now.

Pt. work- 3 years and counting
Don’t know if this matters, but does owning a business in the past matter.

I hope that sat score is out of 1600 and not 2100. Whats your score out of 2100? Cause im pretty sure penn looks at writing. You look solid for either schools. Obviously have a better shot at cas, but if you can work off of that business that you use to own, you probably have a good shot at wharton too.

i hope you mean an sat score out of 2400 and not 2100. Why did you say it was 2100? Cause im pretty sure its 2400. You should know that by now. Obviously it would be better if it was out of 2100, but if it really was, i probably would have had a good shot at getting over 100%.

actually my total is 1870. i know thats low. but i've been preparing so i'm trying to get around 2000+. math was 720, english 590, writing 560. just b/s my essay cause nothing was coming to mind. easily make up 70 points in english and writing each. i have some other hooks that I could use, but I don't have a resume next to me. just posting off top of my head. thanks for your imput anyways.

I also didn't mention that I am in SGA Congress, freshman mentoring program, and I also am quite active in stock market, posting $profits$. would stock market be something that I could use?

Yes, I believe that my scores are borderline-low for english. However, besides that, are the rest of my credientials okay? For the SAT, I am retaking it in November. I am also taking the ACT in October, which should be very good. Thanks for your comment

A critical reading score of 590 applying from disadvantageous geographical area (i.e. overrepresented northeast USA locale), and apparently no URM status available - makes the odds very very low for any IVY League.

However a top 2% class rank and presumptively high EQ (interpersonal) skills may indicate you have the diligence and organizational skills longer term to eventually end up in a Tier 1 or a very close to Tier 1 grad school or very good grad school at some point, regardless of precisely where you receive your undergrad education.

Thanks for you post citation X. Yes, while I know my critical reading score is 590, I am hoping to get it around 650-690 range. I believe if i get mid 600s in writing, and reading, I have good chance as 650, 650, 720 would be 2020 with 1370 combined. Acceptance into Wharton is a long reach as of right now, but I am more aligned with going into medical field. My science courses are unweighted 96, weighted 102.67. Doubling up on sciences this year too. Thanks for your input, and regarding acceptance into Penn, I know someone with lower stats than me who is going there now, so anything is possible. But thanks for your comments. Any possible SAT scores or ACT scores that would be alright, post if you can. Thanks

Haha. That was last year though. Application pool is more selective. Anyways it is always good to check with outside people to see what they think, as they are probably applying themselves. There are like eight people from my school applying ED. I was just wondering what it would take to have a good chance of getting into Wharton really. Pretty confident about college even with my current scores. Thanks for your input.

Just do your best and apply. One piece of advice would be to not create a laundry list of ECs and instead focus on what you have been dedicated to. Otherwise, get that SAT score up (that actually is a major deal...you simply need to get those up). Yes people with lower scores get in, but the probability decreases significantly. Up those scores (for Wharton aim for 1400+ at a minimum).

After that you are in the game, the rest is in the admissions office's hand.

[Unless the business was profitable (think four fig net per month...otherwise its not really a real business) with incorporation, then I wouldn't bother listing it]

thanks for your posting mahras2. The business was profitable, but not four fig per month. Close to 1k a month, but I don't think I wuld put it anyways if I am not applying to Wharton. I am trying up another business with parents, which should net four fig easily, however this process is going to get started next year after appropriate steps are taken. I am guessing that you are applying to penn too, so good luck with admissions.

Your chances for getting into Penn ED are about 10%-20% given what you have posted, maybe lower. I would look into other schools. Are you thinking Wharton? I would contact the coach if you are seriously considering being a varsity athlete at Penn. That is a BIG advantage, but you have to have the coach forward that info to the admissions office for it to make a difference. It can't just be under your ec's/brag sheet. Good luck!
