Kerron,
What you heard about the quotas is wrong. Harvard doesn't have quotas. Incidentally, such quotas also are illegal.

The story about your friend and Princeton sounds bogus. There are plenty of people who apply to Ivies with 1600s. Not all get in. In addition, Ivy scholarships are tied to financial need, not board scores.

I'd say you have a good chance but don't get your hopes up because Harvard has a 9% acceptance rate. My boyfriend applied there last year with a 4.2 GPA, 1540 SAT, every possible academic and athletic award you could think of, All-american track runner (Varsity Captain), all-state cellist, and a doctor's assistant at NYU Hospital for 4 years.....and he was deferred then rejected (but got a full ride to yale and dartmouth---that just shows you that harvard is insane). Harvard is seriously one of those schools that you really never know your chances. Also they say they have so many applicants legacy doesnt even matter that much anymore. I'd say don't even waste your energy because there are probably so many more schools you'd like better

about 1,500 black students score over 1200 on the SAT every year(Black Excel African American Student's College Guide). you are a commodity. here are some black student acceptance numbers of highly selective schools from fall 2002

Harvard - 183
MIT - 126
Princeton - 193
Cornell - 314
University of Pennsylvania - 553
Brown University - 191

(The above data/info was complied by the Journal of Blacks in Higher Education Research Department)

these are 7 ivy league schools totalling 1560 african american students accepted. account for the other top 25 schools in the country and you don't need a 720 math SAT score to figure out that the average SAT score of blacks admitted into these universities is most likely significantly lower than the middle 50%.

i would say you have a GOOD shot at all of the ivies with those stats. congratulations.

one thing. i noticed your weighted gpa does not change very much. have you challenged yourself with many AP/honors courses?

i certainly hope so(cross ur fingers)
but how important is the MidYear Report? cuz my AP Calc teacher is horrible, and half the class is failing. im not, but im borderline
