Just of note: I am taking part in a virtual stock exchange game with 100s of students around Hong Kong and am currently in the top 3. Even if I come in the top 20 I will win a award for representing my school, and if I come in the top 5 I will win an individual award. Furthermore, I will be doing a similar kind of competition, but in school only, and will most probably win that. How will these affect my chances?

Shoe-in .

yup. Easy safety

I would be surprised if you did not get in.

Slight reach. Try to get that GPA up a little more.

Hmm. I see…

UMich won’t have rolling admissions starting next year…and it will either be EA or ED.

I would never say “guaranteed” (since nothing is) but you’re pretty much there.

go to HYP. Umich should be your safe school

Wait… If I am applying in the coming fall there will be no rolling decision?

No, U of M is now on commonapp.org so it will make admission rates fall too.

I am not sure I understand.
When I apply admission rates will fall because UMich is on the common app. Furthermore, there will be no rolling decision. Am I correct or wrong?

RocknPiano, could you explain why admission rates will fall because of the Common App?

No rolling decision, commonapp will cause a decline in admission percentage because there will be more applicants who aren’t that committed to Michigan but just add them to their list because it’s only a click away. It will be harder for Michigan to sort out who really wants to go there and who just applied because they could.

You are correct, Jebar. But it doesn’t affect you anyway. I’d say you have a 90% or higher chance of getting into Ross preferred admission, actually.

I’ve also heard the argument that the common app would decrease the admissions rate. I’m not too sure that it will actually happen or if there is a decrease it will be very small. It is not just a matter of adding Michigan to the list of colleges you want the common app sent to and “clicking”. It will (presumably) require you to pay another admissions fee and also to complete a supplemental application unique to Michigan (with required essay(s)). Other than the basic information on the app, I don’t think the common app really simplifies applying to colleges very much and I doubt that this will have much of an impact on the number of people applying to Michigan. Just MHO…

Could anyone post a link showing that there will be no rolling admission as I have not seen it on their website.

they haven’t changed their admission policy from this year yet…but it will be up along with the 2011 essay questions when it comes out in late june.
