hmmm, i assume ur old SAT 640 is for writing?
anyways, stats seem pretty good. remember, no1 is guaranteed in cuz of their grades! make sure u have leadership, and AMAZING essays. the essays are def wat get u in...

9th and 10th grade I was in the top 2 of my class.
changed high school. now my hs doesn't rank. maybe top 10% but i dunno.
we don't have gpa's. in A levels u only get grades.
abt leadership, well i'm comp club president for one. others are less significant. i'm in the hs soccer team.
lots of community service stuff
great recs expected

and andy2009, thanks for pointing that out. 640 is for verbal. i'm not too good in english. it's my 2nd language.

thanks for the replies...
with the additional info wut d'u think?

ok, mech engg isn't that popular a major, even within the engg school...it definitely isn't as competitive as say bioengg or chem engg. So I think that if you can make it clear that you're really interested in mech engg, have some research or work experience, and of course killer essays, you've gotta good shot.

ahhhh...i've no research experience! i'm searching for an engineering related internship though.
i've got to start working on my essays right away but i haven't received my app package yet! :(
i've my heart set on Upenn...i so hope i get in!

oh, sorry, i mean i didn't mean to say it's bad or anything...but Penn's engg school is ranked 30th, only its bio and chem engg programs are decently ranked (4th and 5th respectively)...so in terms of national ranking, i gues mech engg isn't great, but i can tell you that you will get a very well;rounded education. Lots of cutting edge research goes on here; there are so many opportunities available; you've just gotta use them.

oh if i get in...i'll use them alright!
so i've a kinda decent chance to get in ED rite? i'd probably be hopeless RD. the problem is i don't have many leadership roles and this seems like a big factor!

yeah, i think so...try and do something during the summer; teach at an orphanage or something...shows leadership and community service stuff. Or do research. But yeah, I think you have a decent shot. Good luck!;)

thanks for the advice. ED application time is nearing and i seriously need to get busy. need to show some leadership and dedication!
and yea...begin working on the killer essays;)
