Hello everyone,
I'm gonna apply ISU this year. I'm interested in Aerospace Engineering and Electrical Engineering (but still not sure about which one to choose).
_ I'm Vietnamese (international student) - Asian
_ My GPA is 9.6 over 10
_ I'm gonna take TOEFL iBT this Sunday, but I predict it may be over 80 (I hope it will be 100+)
_ I haven't taken SAT yet, but SAT subject tests already (Math II and Physics, I expect a double 800)
So any chances for me to get in?
Does ISU consider talent or prizes in competitions in national or international level?

By the way, do you guys have any information about those two majors above in ISU (e.g. ranking, job oppotunities, internship...)?

If your TOEFL & SAT scores are where you describe them to be, you can expect to receive a letter beginning with the statement: “Congratulations, you have been accepted”

Thank you.
Well I only got 94 for TOEFL but a double 800 for SAT II in Math II and Physics, as I expected. I’m gonna take SAT in December, however, I don’t think I’ll do well at it.
By the way, how do you think about my chance of getting the scholarship?

im entering iowa state in the spring for chemical engineering, the engineering college states that 84% of the students have done internships upon graduation.

And something like 79% of students have job placements lined up before graduation.

The reason why i picked Iowa state was because of hiring rates are extremely high for the students. They hold the largest engineering job fair every year

When I visited Iowa State in September, they showed us a formular they use to calculate for admission. Basically, they multiple your ACT (or SAT) by a number, your GPA, your years of core classes, and something else, and if they add up to a certain number, you’re golden. So I don’t know if you not taking the regular SAT will delay your admissions letter or anything, but I expect you’ll get in. And I know they have lots fo out-of-state oppertunities for scholarships, so I’d assume the same for international. But you’ll know about scholarships when you get accepted, being that the main university awards scholarships when you apply for general admission.

Hope I helped!

EDIT: This is the afforementioned equation that must equal 245 of higher RAI = (2 x ACT composite score) + (1 x high school rank) + (20 x high school grade point average) + (5 x number of high school courses completed in the core subject areas). And on their site, they say that they review apps on an individual basis if one of the components aren’t met, so you’ll be fine.

Wow, I’ve never known that there is a purely mathematical formula for admission That explains why they only require test scores and other numbers. I was kind of surprised at first at it. Whatever, this formula is not applicable to my case
Thank you very much :)

Oh btw, how about the honor program? I read on the website that applicants must have ACT score above 30 to get in. I’m gonna take SAT this Dec, but surely cannot get higher than 2000 :(

Well, the equivalent for a 30 ACT is a 1330-1350 SAT with CR and Math only. So, if you aim for something around that, it should get you into the honors program unless they don’t do conversions. But when I was there, the adviser I spoke to said that Iowa’s a mainly ACT state, so SAT’s aren’t too plentiful there. But I’m not an expert or anything.

I don’t know how they admit international students or if the requirments are different but judging just by your test scores and grades you will more than likely be accepted.
