Hi, so my guidance counselor told me to do a summer program to spice up my college application. I'm going to be a junior and she told me to try programs for Center for Talented Youth at John's Hopkin's, which is my dream school. Doing a summer program there would look great on my application, and they offer programs that I'm interested in: science and medicine. However, the biggest issue is money. My mom said her limit is $1,000 and CTY is about $4,000. Are there any $1,000 or less summer programs in the East Coast as good as CTY?

I would see if your state offers a “Governor’s School” program for the areas in which you are interested. I think those are FREE (for a multi week residential program) — but, you have to get chosen, and the applicant pool is usually quite strong.

@SevenDad Yeah my school does and I looked into the Governor School programs and they are very competitive. I most likely won’t be chosen.

are you a minority and/or low/middle-income? If you are I can find you a whole list of programs for FREE aimed at encouraging more disadvantaged students to get into STEM.
