Any Chem Engr's out there?

Hey guys,

So my bro got into UCI as chem e. and UCSB but as Chem (they didn't want to give him chem e.) My question on his behalf is this: do any chem e's graduate within two years from uci (after transfer)? By looking at the curriculum, prereqs, classes offered in the summer there really doesnt seem like it.

Also do you guys have any opinions in regards to his situation? He really wanted Sb but would rather do chem e. then risk not being able to chem e. or any other engineering major for that matter if his 'change major' petition doesn't go through. Any feed back would help. Thanks!

If this helps: (His stats)

finished IGETC

finished prereqs excluding programming

3.5 overall gpa

3.6ish science and math gpa (4.0 in ochem)

no EC’s

from Saddleback College (2 year transfer)

If you finished all your pre-reqs, it is POSSIBLE to finish in 2 years. If not then, it is very likely that you will finish in 3 years or more.

This is because chem E at UCI have a sophomore series, where they have to take Chem E classes during their 2nd year but CC transfers come in their junior year and have to start with their sophomore series. If you come in with not all your pre-reqs finished, then most likely you will stay for 3 years.

The best place to transfer would be Berkeley if you want to finish in 2 years (this is for every type of engineering). This is due to the semester system. In the semester system, you take less amount of classes.

Thanks a ton. Yeah he chose not to apply to Cal. Only SB and UCI. But thanks again and I’ll let him know!
