Any confirmation of application?

Hello, does Smith send any email acknowledging that our applications for both admission and financial aid have been received? Thanks!

I think after the file is opened they send you a website link and a PIN so you can check on stuff. If I remember correctly, we were panicked because it showed some stuff hadn't been received yet...we called and it had been received but not updated on the system. See what others may say...this could be a filament of my imagination.

When do they open our files? The deadline was Jan 15, do you think they would have opened them? Is it the same for financial aid, ie send an email after the Feb 1 deadline is over?

psalm, TD is correct. They will send you an email with a PIN, and you can access the information. Don't be discouraged if it says they haven't received everything yet, it could take some time. Keep checking.

when should you expect an email with a PIN? I got a letter in the mail from them about 2 weeks ago saying they have my application, but it didnt say anything about checking admission status ...

According to my D, do not expect any emails...they won't send one. It takes a while for them to send the PIN as well; my D didn't get hers up until about two-three weeks before the decision.

So I'll just have to wait for the snail-mail? Since there's no other way we can check our application status and credentials list? But on Smith's website I saw a link that allows us to check stuff, but I don't know what exactly--whether it's for our application for admissions or financial aid.
How about financial aid? Will Smith similarly confirm our application via snail-mail?

They will only respond regarding your financial aid after admission. It comes as part of your admission folder. Be patient. Just make sure you sent everything in on time, and they will let you know. The way to check stuff on the Smith website is with a PIN. It will take you to Bannerweb. Remember, My D was accepted ED, so it may be different for RD. If you really want to make sure, I would call the admissions dept.

{{Don't be discouraged if it says they haven't received everything yet, it could take some time. Keep checking}}

Make sure you do check though. As much as I dislike posting anything negative regarding Smith, someone failed twice to open and then print out an essay attached to an email and then include it in my daughters file. I was in the area, so my wife faxed the essay to me at my hotel and I hand delivered it.

I just received a letter from Smith saying that they will record my credentials and place them in my application folder, and will inform me of amy missing materials. In this letter, there wasn't any mention of my financial aid application, but Smith included the Financial Aid Application for Non-US Citizens in the envelope. Did everyone receive this form regardless of whether you applied for aid (for US citizens it would probably be a different form?) and does it mean they haven't received my financial aid application? I have already sent in this form a long time ago; should I contact them to confirm?

I would contact the FA office just to be sure. Never hurts to follow-up.

I just received a letter with my user ID and PIN. My credential checking page shows that everything has been received except for my Final High School Grades. What does this actually mean? I thought all our grades are listed under the school transcript? Are they referring to the Mid-year report? I don't have a mid-year report as the education system here is different. I've also sent all my grades, including my predicted ones, to Smith together with my school report, which has been received by Admissions. I've also called Admissions but the information I got wasn't very helpful. Anyone with similar problems?

Psalm...first of all, RELAX. Repeat after me...OHHMMMMMMMM.

If they got everything but your final grades, then you should be all set, as final grades would not be ready till...ummm....June. If you want to be totally reassured, I would call the adm. office again.

I have already sent in all my grades because I finished high school last November. So I guess this only applies to people on the US education system?

{{My credential checking page shows that everything has been received except for my Final High School Grades
I have already sent in all my grades because I finished high school last November}}

You have a problem. Make Smith aware of the fact you completed school in November and no additional grades will be reported. If they’re expecting grades--either mid terms or final-- and it appears to them they haven’t been received, your acceptance will be in jeopardy.

Agreed, Psalm. I didn't realize you finished school in November. By all means, please call admissions asap and inform them of this issue. I would doubt that you're in jeopardy as this issue just needs to be clarified, but since they are reading apps now and have been since Feb. 1st, time is of the essence.

Hi, I received my PIN today and just checked my application status... It says I'm missing my First Available Senior Grades; when's a good time to email them and ask if they have received them? I'm only asking this, rather than waiting, because they also received my Midyear Report on Jan. 10 (which makes no sense, because transcripts weren't out until the Jan 18).

{{I'm only asking this, rather than waiting, because they also received my Midyear Report on Jan. 10 (which makes no sense, because transcripts weren't out until the Jan 18).}}

You need to call (don’t email) admissions asap because they’re reading apps now. If they’re claiming they received your mid-terms the 10th but that’s impossible, the transcript of record my not be yours. But don’t become paranoid. In all likelihood, there isn’t another student’s transcript in your file. It’s an error and your transcript hasn’t been filed yet. Even though your transcript was ready the 18th when did your high school actually send it out? Most are always behind by a week.
Speak personally with an admission officer and they can view your file to ascertain the problem with the inaccurate date and why they believe they’re missing your mid-terms.
This isn't a big deal. Everything will be fine :)

This isn't Smith-specific but it can not be said enough: CALL!!!! Now, from direct experience, I know that Admissions can be slow in actually logging the material received onto their system, the old "Oh, we received it, we just haven't logged it on-line" syndrome.

However, particularly for time-critical matters, or questions where one can reasonably anticipate a back-and-forth discussion of two or three iterations, picking up the phone and calling is far superior to e-mailing. Not to pick on CMV, but I don't understand aspects of this generation, the first to grow up with cell phones and use them incessantly for social interactions, yet are strangely reluctant to use a phone for anything resembling a business purpose.

Good advice from the top two posts, CMV. Call on Monday and make sure they have everything in the correct folder. I'm sure all will be fine; but better safe than sorry. :)
