Thanks for the help! I'll be sure to call on Monday, and ask my counselor about the transcript, and everything else~.

TheDad: Maybe it's just me, but I prefer emailing because it's easy to do and almost anonymous... The fact that my school hours don't coincide with many admissions offices' working hours doesn't help either.

{{{Maybe it's just me, but I prefer emailing because it's easy to do and almost anonymous.}}

I was going to ignore this post, but I just cant do it.

CMV, how is corresponding with Smith via email almost anon? Youd have to include your name, high school, etc., in the email so admission would have the info. needed to address your problem.
I dont understand the school issue either. If you live on the west coast you can call before school; on the east coast after school; in the middle of the county during lunch hour.

OT-None of my business but you do know CMV is the acronym for Cytomegalovirus?

CVM, the shyness implicit in "almost anonymous" is what's totally unwarranted. You have a legitimate business question. You call and ask it. They're not going to take a massive stamp that says "DUMB!", roll it across a red ink pad, and stamp your file with it.

Emailing is simply my own preference. My weekday schedule is more complicated than the scenario you presented. And, CMV are my initials. (Thanks for the trivia, though.) If you have any further criticism, feel free to PM! I hope I didn't get this thread too off-track.

{{{My weekday schedule is more complicated than the scenario you presented}

I didnt present a scenario. I politely (for me anyway) suggested you should have available time to make a 5 minute, if that, phone call regardless of your geographical location. Been there done that.
I guess your idea of criticism and mine are divergent. Suggesting there is a way to call Smith at some point during the 7 hrs an admission officer is available to answer your questions (there is always an admission officer on duty to do nothing more than to field questions and correct inaccurate computer information) and that she would in all pobability instantly put you mind at ease instead of having to wait for an email response, or hope your email was handled properly, doesnt constitute criticism in my vernacular. Im sorry you took it as such.
BTW- if you truly believe I was harsh, I have list of professors youll need to stay away from.

<<quote>>Emailing is simply my own preference<<quote>></quote></quote>

Then by all means email. If you dont get a response b/c it wasnt read or forwarded to the proper admission officer who is going to read your app, or is in fact currently reading your file that has a chance an incorrect transcript is included-albeit a small one- dont complain if the outcome of your admission decision wasnt as you planned.
If you read any of the posts youd know my wife sent two emails with an essay attachment that were never opened, printed and included in my daughters file. I was close by the college, so she faxed it to me at my hotel and I hand delivered it an admission officer I know. My point? Emails arent always handled properly at all times.

I didnt PM you my response b/c other students may glean useful info from my post.
Good luck with your admissions at all you colleges. :)

To expand: if you call the wrong person or someone who isn't there for a few days or doesn't want to take the time, you get switched to a better person immediately or at least get the name/number so you can make the next call.

Whereas you don't know if your e-mail has gone to the wrong person, etc., and you're assuming that they'll briskly drop everything to deal with your e-mail and get it on its way. Possibly. But possibly not. If you put your faith in e-mail communications, I guarantee that one day you will get badly burned in a way that using the telephone would have avoided. End of sermon.

{{Smith has been swift at logging electronic stuff}}

That's why many colleges make applying online free, besides trying to attract more apps, The info doesn't need to be physically entered into the puter, saving a great deal of time, frustration and errors.

Not just yet. An extremely important business decision that needed an immediate response was inaverntily directed into my Spam folder. Had I not had to looked at the folder that day, I usually dont, a very important business issue many have gone unanswered and cost me 45 zillion dollars and 76 cents.

Now we can end the sermon :)

btw- Im up because the kid has 3 friends for a sleep-over and going to bed before 4 am isn't part of the program, so I can't sleep due the numerous laughs and giggles and chasing one another around the house. What's your excuse---lol

I noticed another anomoly. The time stamp isn't correct again. What's with that?

Hi everyone! Yes, I called Smith, twice in fact. (refer to my previous posts) But the receptionist (at least that's what the automated voice system says the person is) isn't much of a help. She merely seems to repeat what their email said about their office being inundated with credentials and that they need time to sort them out. I've exhausted all possible means (except a personal visit which is out of question since I live on the other side of the US) and tried explaining to the receptionist that I've even faxed the documents twice and I finished high sch last Nov so no more grades will be reported, but she just tells me to continue checking Bannerweb. I'm quite sure my fax went through because my fax report indicated that the transmission was ok. The receptionist also said she can't check whether they have been received because everything is in a box somewhere. Did everyone who called receive the same kind of response? Or did you specifically ask to speak to an admissions officer?

Or did you specifically ask to speak to an admissions officer?}}}}

You need to speak to an admission officer directly. Stay on hold until you can do so. The receptionists, many times, are no more than students on work study. It is imperative to have an admission officer personally make a note in your file all your grades have been received and the circumstances involving your early graduation, or who knows what might happen to your chances of admission.

Thanks RLT! I called yesterday and spoke with an admissions officer. The funny thing is that she said almost the same thing as the receptionist-that a lot of materials are still in a box somewhere and they require a few days to process everything. Hence she wasn't able to confirm whether they have received my fax. But she did note down that I have no more grades to report and she told me that my application could be reviewed as it was complete. However, BannerWeb still shows that my Final High School Grades have not been received. Should I just ignore it?

{{But she did note down that I have no more grades to report and she told me that my application could be reviewed as it was complete}}

That was the important notation that needed to be made by an admission officer.
You accomplished the correct outcome.

Just to make sure, you made it perfectly clear you graduated last Nov. and your high school career ended then and no more grades will be forthcoming and that was what was noted in your file? If so, ignore BannerWeb. Youre good to go.

If you really want to be anal--I am and TD is close behind-- make a call in a week and talk to an admission officer again if BannerWeb is still showing the missing grades. Explain Smith is your first choice (if it is) and you cant imagine being denied because of a glitch. Youll accomplish two things-- 1st, youll demonstrate your sincere interest in Smith-- 2nd, admissions can reasaure you everything is copasetic even if your grades are still not shown as being received on BannerWeb.

Youll be fine. I realize things look a little disorganized, they are. But Smith had been doing this for over a 100 years and very rarely are there major glitches or mistakes. Compared to some colleges, Smith runs better than a handcrafted Swiss watch.
