Any CSU unit caps like UCs?

Hi! I’m currently a SFSU student who plans to transfer to CC to change my major. By the end of this semester I will have 89 units, however, 24 of those units are due to AP scores and another 4 units due to taking a summer class at a CC. So technically I will have 61 units at the end that I’ve actually taken classes here. I know UCs have unit cap so I’m just worried that the CSUs will have the same problem. In those 61 units, 21 units are Upper Division while the rest are all lower. Will that impact me? Also, does anyone know if any of the other CSUs have an impacted major unit limit? Meaning that you can’t declare in an impacted major if you are over a specific amount of units? That’s how my school is and why I’m transferring away to CC.

This is all I could find about CSU’s credit unit caps. I would check with your CC transfer advisor since they will have more information. I could not find anything about upper division course credit.

Is there a maximum number of units I can transfer? Specific regulations vary from college to college. However, the California State University and the University of California allow a maximum of 70 transferable semester units towards the degree. Units above the maximum will be given subject credit. However, all transferable courses are calculated into the transferable GPA for admission. Different limits may apply if you have already attended a “four-year” institution. You should meet with a counselor for more detail.

What if I take more than 70 transferable units? The 70-unit limit applies only to the number of units that will be counted toward graduation and does not apply to courses. The university will grant subject credit for course content needed to satisfy requirements for general education or major preparation, even if they do not count the units for all of your courses toward graduation.

Hello again! Thank you!

You are probably 2-3 semesters from graduating. Why not stick it out at SF? Going to a CC now will just be killing time…
