Hi! I hope you wouldn`t mind answering a few questions! What is it like being an English major? Is it manageable enough to combine with another field of study? How does it match up to Comparative Lit? Are you constantly stressed/overworked? What are exams like? How about the overall class culture? Thanks so much!
Hopefully you’ll get the input you are asking for, but this may be the best you get, since not that many actual current students post on CC, and none of them may happen to be English majors at any particular time.
My D2 graduated a while ago. She did not ultimately major in English, but she almost did, and took a number of courses in the English department before she chose something else. I think she was only a few courses short for the English major. The only reason she chose something else was because it was easier for her to meet that major’s requirements, based on what she came in with (she transferred in), and she preferred to take other courses vs. the remaining distribution requirements of the English major.
She really liked her English courses. Particularly the Creative Writing courses, which she reported to be the best courses she took as an undergraduate, period. (She writes really well, FWIW).
Overall she worked hard there (I think) but still had time to pursue an active social life and several time-demanding extracurricular activities.
Sorry I can’t provide more detail but all I have is second hand information.
Some of your questions may possibly be answered by looking up the requirements for the respective majors.
Ok. This was still very helpful. Thanks so much for your response!
