Hoping there might be a few current students (or parents) still on here that could help with a few questions…
Could anyone speak to the campus vibe for Hartt students? Does the fact that most classes are off campus make anyone feel disconnected from the main campus students? Is traveling to class a pain? I’m looking for input along those lines… TIA
@sopranomtmom gas a daughter there - hopefully she can answer that!
@MThopeful2022 My daughter is a current Freshnan at Hartt and I can shed some light. We were initially concerned that the HPAC is off campus but once she got there we realized it truly is barely off campus. It is only about a couple of miles. She has all her dance, voice and acting classes there. Music classes - ear training, music theory and all academics are on campus. So it is a good mix. The shuttle to the HPAC runs back and forth all day so she has no problem getting back and forth. The freshman dorms at the Commons are a hub of activity for all students so there is plenty of non MT and AT students around. But I will say due to the highly specialized nature of their particular programs the MT and AT students tend to bond as a group. The Hartt School is very much it’s own conservatory within the campus setting and those students tend to bond with their creative counterparts which I think you would find anywhere. The performing arts students are a supportive friendly group and the upperclassmen definitely look out for the lower classmen and help them assimilate. There is always something fun to do on and off campus especially for students that enjoy the arts because there are constant music, dance and theatre performances going on. And the campus is beautiful, very walkable and has an amazing performing arts library - the Allen library - that basically is its own entire floor. Such a wonderful resource!
Thanks so much @sopranomtmom ! That does make me feel a little better actually! Hoping to schedule a shadow day for my D very soon! I might PM you if I have further questions…would that be ok?
@MThopeful2022 Of course. I’m happy to answer any questions. I really got some help from a couple of Hartt parents here last year and I want to continue to pay it forward!! PM me anytime!
Hi! My D is a Junior at Hartt and has loved her experience. It is definitely a “conservatory within a college” program. My D had no interest in a traditional campus, so she hasn’t attended a lot out events or activities outside of Hartt, but they do have them. My D had a car as a freshman, but the shuttle is pretty reliable and many kids use that. @sopranomtmom is correct that the AT/MT kids do really bond and become family, and they look out for one another. The training has been very strong, and my D feels like she is growing. Happy to answer any questions you might have!
If someone who currently has a S/D in the MT program, could you PM me? S got his acceptance last week and we have a ton of questions!
@Luvmykids08 Congratulations! My D is finishing up her sophomore year at Hartt in MT. I’d be happy to answer any questions you may have. I tried to PM you but it couldn’t find Luvmykids08. Not sure why.
I have started an Accepted Class of 2022 Hartt thread for MT (and AT). Very excited to be on the other side of this decision. Such a supportive group here of Hartt parents. Thanks and looking forward to meeting everyone.
Looks like there will be 30 kids in the Hartt MT class of 2022! (I think the break down is 12 males/18 females)
Best wishes to all!
