Any current students?

If any current University of Chicago students read this could you leave a small review on the school? I’m strongly considering Early Decision II but I just have a couple reservations. I have a chance of getting in normally, but I feel as if I ED2 I would have a much higher chance. I want to major in economics by the way. I just want to know from a student’s perspective about the environment, clubs, sports teams, academic rigor, etc. I’d really appreciate any insight. Thanks everyone.

I’m sure someone a lot more enthusiastic than me will chime in with a long and very earnestly written post discussing point by point how they feel about the school, but if you are interested in efficiently getting a lot of information, here is what I did while I was applying.

First, niche.com is a pretty good source for unfiltered random student opinions. There’s literally 55 pages of people writing little blurbs about their experiences: https://colleges.niche.com/university-of-chicago/reviews/

But the second and actually more useful source of information is past posts on College Confidential. Honestly, you don’t just want students opinions. CC has parents, alumni, and a lot of private admissions counselors giving their opinions here, too. All have perspectives you can’t just get from a student that may actually be nearly as enlightening.

Go to google and search “site:talk.collegeconfidential.com uchicago culture” or “site:talk.collegeconfidential.com uchicago student life” or “site:talk.collegeconfidential.com uchicago vs northwestern” (if you must), and other similar queries. Google does a really good job searching the site for threads that will probably be of use to you.

I found this method extremely effective. I had no surprises went I went to UChicago. It was pretty much exactly like the picture College Confidential painted. This is not particularly common among people I know, I think a lot of people get surprised by the school - there’s a joke that a good chunk of students find out about the core during o-week.

Thanks for the reply. I’ll check out niche and some old forums. If you dont mind me asking, did you apply ED?

ED didn’t exist when I was applying. I applied EA and was deferred, then got in RD.

Oh ok. Thanks a lot.
