Any current UGA students? (Apartment question)

Hey, I know once upon a time there were a couple UGA students on this forum answering questions. I have been at UGA 1 1/2 years and am trying to find a new apartment. I am looking at University Apartments on Riverbend (Pkwy) and can't find much in the way of ratings/opinions of people in the past couple years. Has anyone ever lived there/known people that did and what you/they thought about it? It's wicked expensive ($900/month 2 br) but includes all utilities and is in the contention with Fairways at Jennings Mill for my next apartment (lived over near Tallassee Rd for a while, so ready to get out of this shady end of Athens!) Anyways, any help out there?

I don’t really know anything about University Apartments, although I did take a look at it when looking for apartments myself, and $900 is WAYYYYYYYYYYYYY too much for those apartments. WAY TOO MUCH. You can find SOO many other apartments MUCH cheaper than that that are MUCH MUCH nicer. Unless this is $900 for both people and it’s $450 each person…then that’s not bad. But $900 for one person is RIDICULOUS. If that $900 is split between two people, does that mean you’re signing one lease? Because that can get kinda dangerous. There are apartments out there that split the leases so you’re not responsible for your roommate’s rent.

Are you planning on taking the bus to school? University Apartments is serviced by the city bus during the day and the campus bus during the night. Because there are SO many apartments on Riverbed (at least on that end), the bus is going to be RIDICULOUSLY crowded. Just a thought…

Are you up for suggestions? Might I suggest Lakeside Apartments. It’s on the other end of Riverbend. It’s $440-445 per person for a 2 bedroom apartment. You get your own vanity area, but you share the tub/toilet. Water/electricity/cable are included (unless you go over on your water/electricity). You have to get your own internet. But it’s a nice place and you’re not sharing the city bus with too many other apartment complexes. It’s basically almost the same distance from campus as University Apartments (just add three or four minutes). Plus, they just changed the furniture last year. The office is really friendly and maintenance is really good too. I’ve been a resident there, and I’d recommend it. The busses get crowded, but I don’t think it’s nearly as bad as the bus for the other end of Riverbend.

Thanks jenmarie! I looked at lakeside first, (I knew someone who lived there and it looked decent) but as of this year they no longer rent unfurnished apartments, and I have a 2 bedroom apartment with my own furniture right now. Apparently they tore down their storage building to add more parking.

University apartments was in the running because it includes everything, and my loans will cover a fair bit of it, with my boyfriend picking up the slack. I figured out that with my current rent+all utilities (at a place my rent is just about $470/month) I average about $700/month (yay for zero insulation and single paned windows there, ick), so the deal with moving is I’ll pay ‘rent’ and my boyfriend of over a year is moving in and paying all non-rent expenses ‘utilities’/‘fees’ so that’s the deal with avoiding the entire $900/month (If I spent housing expenses for only the semesters I am given them for, that’d work, but I need it to stretch 12 months rent out of 2 semesters housing allowance)

We looked around alot, and the more affordable nice places are never near campus, we’re looking at a place called ‘westpark club’ now, but sheesh, places far from sketchy areas cost a ton!

Also, totally up for suggestions, as long as it includes nothing on Tallassee/Mitchell Bridge section and isn’t the Exchange (lived there once already, even more expensive than University Apartments and not worth it.) Also, already checked out ‘University Gardens’ off Baxter, more single paned windows scared me away.

Thanks for the info!
