Anyone on CC going on any OVs to Yale shortly? Wondering if we could talk about our experiances with the coaches and such~

Well, yes. I think I am going down sometime in September, the coach is a pretty terrible recruiter though when it comes to being in frequent contact with prospective players. Anyway, I'm looking forward to it and my 4 others, looks like quite a busy fall...

im being recruited for xc. havent set up official visit yet tho...

what sport thebeers?
Yale seems a little last second for sending out ov's but im still really excited

What are some of your academic stats? (If you don't mind me asking)

havent taken SATiis yet
satI 2250
gpa 3.76
4.02 without freshman year

i think i made the AI floor but it depends on how much the coach wants me

What exactly happens when you're recruited?

coaches contact you through a phone call or an email. After talking about the program and school the coach tries to court you into thinking about that school. After a while of continuous contact the coach requests a transcript and SAT results and sees if you have any chance of getting into the school. An ov is set up later where they fly you and pay for you to stay in upperclassman dorms and go to classes

2350 sat1 with top scores for each section taken (took it couple times)
doesnt matter though, i have friends who got flatly rejected early with perfect sats

im heading out there soon, and im really looking forward to it. It seems that rowers have actually better SAT scores than the average at Princeton at Yale, so It must be pretty difficult to get much help from the coaches wouldnt it?

I'm being recruited as well. Did any of you get an offer for an ov yet? They really seem to be slow with regards to that. Also the coach I have talked to neglects our contact somewhat, even though he assures me that I am "someonewe we are extremely interested in". Nevertheless it makes me nervous because other schools are already urging me to apply SCEA. Yale is so different from any other ivy I've talked to and I keep thinking it's because they're not really that much interested.

what sport, cheesecake_junkie? It does seem as though the coach that i've been talking to is somewhat behind...

chitownstud, my sport is hockey, Are you a rower?

I whish I knew how admission for recruited athletes at Yale works. Apparently, Yale is one of the toughest schools for athletes to gain admission to. As far as I have perceived, coaches have only little influence on admissions. They're extremely selective and if your stats and scores are less than stellar you'll have a hard time or no shot at all even if you're an amazing athlete.

Another thing that I have noticed is that other schools I've talked to had at least two coaches who were responsible for recruiting and scouting, at some schools I've even talked to 4! different coaches, whereas at Yale it is only one person who does everything. Maybe they don't have the time to remain in frequent contact, because they're busy scouting new talent for the class after yours.

I've been asked to do an ov. I'm not sure what to really make of it because in all honestly I'm not quite good enough and my scores aren't quite high enough to be a top recruit either athletically or academically. But here's hoping. . .

I have a concern, though, and I was wondering if anyone else shares it or how they are dealing with it. I'm taking a pretty hard course load, a lot of tough AP courses. It looks like I am going to miss 5 Fridays pretty much in a row for ov's. This is going to cook me in my classes! Anyone else worried about this?

coldcomfort, talk to you teachers before you leave and ask what kind of work you can do in order not to fall behind. They'll understand and support you if you show some initiative and willingness. I used to miss all Thursdays and Fridays for two months (not for official visits) and I don't think that it has affected my marks greatly-despite a really hard course load. Don't worry to much about it, you'll be fine.

So my visit is tomorrow... Until Monday I will be getting a taste of life at Yale. Wish me luck. I am a bit nervous even though it's my second official...

I'm a female lacrosse player matt.

So how was it? I am visiting during the week and I can't wait. Anything to see? Do or not do? Did the coaches discuss admissions?

The visit was tre awesome. The girls on the team are super cool, really nice and welcoming. I ate in several of the dining halls, Berkely, Pierson, Saybrook, and saw 2 really great classes an European Lit class and a Political Philosophy lecture. Not to mention going out at night to ADPhi and Toads... Sneaking in the back doors of bars is something new for me. Overall t'was a great experience.
