Is there any difference in using common app or JHU's application?
Does using Common have an negative effect on chances of admission??

Schools that use the common app sign a contract pledging not to discriminate against its users. That said, I found JHU's application to actually be a great deal more user friendly than the common app. You have to write the JHU specific prompts anyway, no matter what you do, so there's not too much of a difference.

I recommend using the common app because it has an extra essay (with an open prompt) that will give you more room to express yourself to the admissions committee.

I second asdf.

But I used the JHU app since I didn't know that the common app offered that extra perk. :). But yes, the JHU app is also a lot more user friendly, and the paper one has colorful sheets. ;)
