When we had visited UF we were able to see the bathrooms in Broward and Murphee. I must say that the bathrooms were the biggest turnoff about the dorms. The communal bathroom in Broward was tiny with maybe three (2'x2')shower stalls. My daughter wants to live in a large, social dorm for her first year to meet people but the bathrooms....positively frightful. Are the communal bathrooms any bigger, cleaner or nicer in the other large halls (Rawlings, Mallory, Simpson, Graham, Fletcher etc...) She would rather not do a suite type dorm because she wants the social aspect of the double room/communal bath down the hall type dorm. Can she "have it all" or must she chose social with gross bathrooms vs. quiet and isolated with nicer bathroom?

I would recommend broward for your daughter if she wants a really social freshman dorm. All the communal bathrooms are basically the same in all the dorms. The ones in murphree area are only a semester old., so they are a lot newer than the rest. I wouldn't recommend a the murphree area for freshmans because they are a lot of upperclassman and the floors are designed where freshman's are not able to be as social as possible. In the Graham area, they have similar communal bathrooms as broward but unlike broward they are split into two sections, not just one long wall.

The bathrooms in Murphree are disgusting, and they are not a semester old - they're like 60+ years old and they've just been "renovated," which in my opinion honestly didn't do much. Plus the above poster is right about the Murphree area having a lot of upperclassmen and not being as social.

Yulee's bathrooms are really nice and much bigger than the other ones (they have a kind of partition with a long row of sinks with a mirror, and then several showers on one side and several stalls on the other side). I haven't been in the other bathrooms in that area, like Mallory, but I'd assume they're similar. It's a great social area for freshmen.

Whichever dorm she chooses, the community bathrooms are supposed to be cleaned once a day except on weekends, so it shouldn't be TOO awful.

The Murphree bathrooms are new, they took out everything (tiles, sinks, shower, toilets) and replaced it with new materials. The bathrooms are not disgusting....they are new and cleaned everyday except weekends just like jennings.

I lived in Murphree, and my bathroom was disgusting. So was the one on the floor below. Pretty much everyone else on my floor agreed.

Maybe you lived in there before renovations, because I currently live there and have no problems with my bathroom. It just be your section in murphree.

Maybe it is just my section, I lived there after the reservations.

Hope this doesn't sound like a silly question, but how many people share just three shower stalls and three toilets? The reason my son decided against Beaty Hall is because four people shared just one bathroom. Now, it sounds like that may be a good idea.

In simpson, graham, and trustler it was 4 shower stalls and 6 toilets for 50-52 people. I think its the same for broward but I am not sure.

Murphree is about 4-7 people for 1 shower stall and 2 toilets.
