Hi- this is a duplicate of another thread that had a misleading title in light of people being wait listed in admissions. I looked at the course offerings for next fall and see that a number of courses are already wait listed. What is your experience in getting the classes you need? How is the wait list resolved? Are courses added, are classes expanded, or are you just out of luck?

If you are still waitlisted after speaking with them. They will add more classes.

Really? So if there are four kids on a wait list they open another section? And then they have a class of 4 ? Can other people weigh in on whether this has been your experience as well? That would be great.

My son’s experience is that they do not always open another class…once when he was waitlisted he did receive an email about another section opening up and was able to register for that new section, once the new section didn’t work with the rest of his schedule so he just waited a semester to take the class and twice a new section did not get added so he just went to the first day of the waitlisted class and asked the professor to add the class which he was able to do…if there is room ( chairs) in the classroom, the professors usually allow kids to fill out a form and add the class…

But I don’t think new sections are added for all classes just because there is a wailist…my son is a Jr. TV major, adv minor and overall has gotten into all the classes he needs with the exception of 1 or 2 which he just took the next semester as he moved up on the registration date/time list.

Thanks. That makes sense. Was your son able to take alternate classes (in the situation where he took the desired course in a later semester) that continued to move him towards a 4 year graduation period? Meaning that he wasn’t taking under-water basket weaving simply to maintain full-time status?

In addition, the students need to be flexible with their schedule. They add sections according to how many people are on the waitlist for the course. Obviously they’re not going to open another class for only 4 kids. DS was on a waitlist for one of the courses in the beginning of this semester and they did open another section on a different day. The time was not ideal, but DS was flexible enough to make it work. If all else fails, the students can take their courses during interterm period which is free. That has been very helpful.

Flipper…my son always had a long list of classes he needed to take so if he was wailisted for one he wanted he just registered for another class he needed and waited to see what happened…and sometimes he didn’t know till classes started what the end resultbwas going tobe but as i said earlier, he was able to add into some waitlisted classes…as a senior next year, he is registering today for a sophomore level class he needs that he just never got around to taking ( or probably because he didn’t want Friday classes)…alot of film classes don’t need to be taken in order…obviously some do but he never had to take something he didn’t need just maintain full time status…and he did take advantage of interterm selections…not everything is offered of course but he always found something to take over interterm that was interesting and he needed…
