U Pitt has put waitlisted me, with the opportunity to have guaranteed admission in Spring 2017.
What exactly does this mean?
Does it mean I will be like every other student, but just starting a bit later?
Can someone please let me in on the pros/cons of this if any?
Guaranteed admissions for Spring 2017 means that you would start your first freshman term in January instead of August. You should still have the same academic opportunities as any other incoming freshman, but you’ll just be starting a little later. You should have received a FAQ sheet with your waitlist letter that details how housing, financial aid, enrollment, etc. will be affected. I would encourage you to take a look at that FAQ, there is a lot of good information there. Feel free to contact our office if you have additional questions about how the whole process works while you are making your decision: oafa@pitt.edu or 412-624-7488.

Greetings Hailtopitt1787. Our son has also been waitlisted with guaranteed admission for spring of 2017. We are curious about the waitlist component of the process. We see from the common data set of the past two years that there are a fairly high number of students taken from the waitlist, but are students in the Spring guaranteed admission given any preference? Pitt is far and away his first choice, and he will immediately enroll if he is accepted from the waitlist, but he feels he needs to enroll at one of his other accepting universities too. Our fear is the powerful bonding of new friends and familiarity with the plan B university will extinguish his ties to Pitt by late fall. Knowing how the Spring admission waitlist works will really help this family. Thanks!
@joshetal, We do not assign numbers/preference to students on the wait list. If space becomes available for the fall term, the Admissions Committee will review the records of all students on the wait list and notify some students they will have a place in the fall term and others a space in the spring term. You will hear back on whether your son has been admitted for the fall or spring term on or before June 1, 2016.
I hope that helps clarify! Of course, if you or your son has any additional questions about this process and how it relates to your particular situation, you can feel free to contact our office. We would be happy to assist you: 412-624-7488 or oafa@pitt.edu.

Last year 2382 were put on a waitlist, 559 accepted a waitlisted position and 170 were admitted
So I guess a pretty good chance if you can show improvement in the Senior year
