Hi everyone, I am a Questbridge finalist this year and I chose not to rank my schools. So, I am applying EA to on school and RD to all of my other schools. To be completely honest, I do not really like the essays that I wrote for Questbridge. Would it hurt mr to not forward my application, and just let the schools know that I was chosen as a finalist?

If your essays are horrible, then, yes…it would hurt you. But if your essays are readable and good, presuming they are cuz you became a finalist, they will help colleges get to know you better. 1 essay in common app vs. 3 essays in questbridge app… some colleges dont even accept the questbridge app…so keep that in mind too

I’m not sure that you can apply for free with the QB waiver if you don’t forward your app. Check that.

I also thought that I read that you could not be chosen as a finalist if you did not rank.

Assuming the app is good, nope. Submit it. But don’t submit it in lieu of your regular app, having Quest send it as a supplement to the CommonApp. More space = more opportunities to flesh yourself out as a person and not just a stack of paper. The admissions committees will read everything you submit.

I didn’t think you could submit both. Isn’t either the QB app or the the common ap?

I forwarded my QB app and submitted the CommonApp anyway. I got into a number of the QB schools to which I applied without problem, so I’m assuming you can either submit both or they just disregarded one without telling me. I was under the assumption that they just treated the QB app as a supplement to the CommonApp if both were submitted.

I’m forwarding mine to USC. Does being a QuestBridge finalist who ranked USC, kind of increase my chances of being admitted?

Most schools require that you submit the common app/supplement even if you forward the QB app. Some wont’ accept your QB app and some won’t accept the school’s app and you must use the QB app. So it varies. Check the QB website for all the info on each partner school.

@curious - I don’t think so. Are you national merit?

No, but I’m in the scholarship consideration candidacy.

@Crazy so if a school says they don’t use the QB app in lieu of the Common App, I should not forward the QB app at all? This is too confusing.

Edit: the QB site says…
Finalists - Did Not Rank Yale for College Match Non-Finalist
Can I use my QuestBridge application in lieu of your regular application?
No.
Submit the Common App. Please note that it is not necessary to write new/additional essays and you are encouraged to reuse QuestBridge essays for the Common Application and Yale Supplement. You may also request that QuestBridge forward your application, which will be treated as supplementary material to your Common App.

For instance, Yale says that you MAY submit the QB app. Does this mean you won’t be penalized if you don’t? I wrote a “creative” essay that really shows my figurative language skills, but I feel like the overall message that that essay gives is a little more lofty than I really am. It was the additional info essay and I’m not sure what to do about that!

What about transcripts and teacher recommendations?
Should I resend those too or do they get sent with the Questbridge app?

I believe they’re sent with the QuestBridge app. :-)

All of the schools say that they’ll contact you if items from other sources are missing (the school, teachers, etc.). That being said, log in every 2-3 days and check your portal to be sure. Definitely check 2 business days before the school’s regular decision deadline (so you have time to call them if you’re worried).
