Have people started to received their results yet? It would seem logical that colleges issue the first wave of rejections so they don't get stuck in the pile.

It’s not logical. Why?

Because you’ll have subsequent years of applicants calling/emailing/annoying them before their stated deadline “Have you decided on me yet?”

Even if they’ve decided on a bulk of the ED/EA apps, all colleges would bring to themselves is pain and irritation if they announce them prior to stated deadlines. One notification. Idiocy, otherwise.

Many state flagships (including my own) have already released decisions for early applicants.

I answered the question as I assumed the OP meant traditional EA/ED programs with target decision dates of ~Dec 15. cc123 is referring to may publics’ “rolling admissions” programs, which are a complete different species.

Some non-rolling schools with target dates such as Cornell send likely letters as early as mid november to recruited athletes who applied early decision, but obviously this is a very small pool.

Likely letters are a different discussion – and are not formal admit decisions by the schools. (BTW, the Ivies allow LLs to be issued anytime between Oct 1 to Mar 15).
