Hey I was just wondering if anyone else was applying to this. Is there anyone out there who has applied in the past? If so, I'd love to hear from you!

yeah, i'm applying for this. i figure that maybe i can win at least the 2,000 dollar scholarship.

good luck. i was going to apply but with the fin aid disclosure form turned me off. i wouldnt get anything. merit based only for me.

good luck to those who applied.

oh yeah, how do you detemine whether you need financially based aid? most need-based scholarships are opened to middle class and lower class families , right? I'm still under the impression that I probably won't qualify, but don't know for sure.

i'm applying even though I don't think that I will get it.

Is this the scouts one? :p

When's the deadline again?

i'm definitely applying, hoping to dear god i get something. lol.

deadline's jan. 14

I heard SATs one of the most important factors in their decision, so people who have high SAT scores should definetly apply

what are you guys writing your essay on?

hmmm... what's the website for this scholarship?

That application is soooo long! lol. Well, that's expected...but I'm so stressed right now. How many scholarships are you all applying for this year?

like 10. Seriously, it seems to me that I don't care for scholarships. I'm just applying to as much as I can before dec 31 becasue there are so many schoarships due that day. Basically, I'm just transforming my college essays( the ones that can fit the best) and sending them off, hoping that I might win something:(

yeah I'm applying too, but I have no idea what to write it on. Help?

Do you know how they give points for SAT and ACT? Also, do you just submit one or the other? If so, how do we know which of our set of scores will yield more points?

yea. scholarships are killing winter break. well, i shouldn't complain seeing as i'm not-so-diligently online browsing websites and procrastinating. haha. goodluck everyone!

I really hope that I win a scholarship, because I need money for college badly. Anyways, I can't believe that 14,000 applied for this award last year. That really dampens my odds of winning.

wow 14,000??? How many actually get something?

I graduated in 1981 and received the local Elks scholarship (maybe $500 or so) then went on to district level...my son is now a senior in our rural Oregon area, and is applying for both Elks scholarships: Most Valuable Student (open to everyone) and the Legacy (for children or grandchildren of Elks, his grandpa is an Elk). Due dates for both are Jan 14...the Most Valuable Student application is filed at the local lodge. The Legacy one needs a signature from the local lodge then the student sends it to the national office.

In Oregon, there are 23 of the Legacy scholarships; a total of up to 500 $1000 nationally. For the Most Valuable Student, you advance through local, district and state level then national. At the national level, it looks like there are 500 scholarships; 3 BIG ones then 494 $4K ones...plus whatever is available at the local, district and state levels. So definitely a good scholarship program to apply for.

The forms took forever, although you can do them on line so they look good printed out. On the legacy application, you have to write a short essay about your involvement with the local Elks lodge (like which high school kid is going to even know where it is?)...my son ended up volunteering to do Christmas food baskets with his grandpa a few weeks ago, so wrote about that..plus got to meet the local scholarship guy, so that was a good opportunity. He is now waiting to gather up his letters of ref when school starts up and get everything signed and DONE!
