I've noticed that there are no engineerng majors listed at colgate.edu.. mechanical or environmental engineering are something I'd like to study possibly. Is there really nothing of this sort at colgate or are they just not majors?

They do some sort of "pre-engineering" program to help you get ready for MS in engineering but no official engineering major.

there's a special 2-3 engineering program that i'm too tired to look up the specifics for right now, but it basically combines the best of liberal arts and tech schools, so you're well rounded but get the same stuff engineers from engineering schools get.

Sorry, it's a 3-2 plan, not a 2-3. Here's more information....

From the Colgate site: "The department offers two ways to prepare for engineering: concentrate in physics at Colgate and after graduation go to graduate school in engineering, or use one of the combined plans available in the department. To allow a student to combine education in the liberal arts with engineering training, Colgate has cooperative agreements with Columbia University, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and Washington University. A student may spend three years at Colgate and two at the engineering school (the 3-2 plan) to earn bachelor’s degrees from both institutions. The student may be eligible to continue study for a master of science (MS) degree, which can sometimes be completed in as little as one additional year after earning the bachelor’s degree in engineering. Eligibility for the MS program is determined by the engineering school."

Found here: Colgate: Physics and Astronomy; Pre-Engineering

after your three years at colgate would you have to apply to columbia, etc., and possibly be rejected or is it automatic if youre doing the 3-2 program that youd get into those schools?

I'm not sure how the application process works, not having gone through it myself or knowing anyone who has. The site doesn't specify - maybe you could try emailing one of the professors in the department? They're usually very open to prospective student questions!

As long as u have a 3.0 gpa or 3.5 for Electical Engineering or Computer Science You will with no problem get into the schools.
