Hoping to get some input from them, mainly since the orientation for int'l is not until Aug 16th and worried that good course options might be gone by then. Any suggestions??

Son has 32 credits for the AP's out of which one Physics AP clears him of the science GE.

Any feedback is welcome, course related or not. Thanks.

You have a course plan, or you should, from prior materials sent to you. Follow that, especially in the first two years.

Unfortunately, USC does not give credit for physics.

^
[USC ARR : Articulation : AP Exam Credit at USC](http://www.usc.edu/dept/ARR/articulation/apexamcredit.html)

A four or a five in AP

Biology
Chemistry
Physics (B)
Physics (C- Mechanics)
Physics (C- Electricity/Magnetism)

Satisfies GE Cat 3.

wymae13 is referring to the following Viterbi web site:
[USC - Viterbi School of Engineering - AP Credit](http://viterbi.usc.edu/students/undergrad/fye/orientation/apcredit.htm)

GE 3 is automatically waived for all engineering students because of the numerous required science courses in Engineering degrees. But PHYS 151 & 152 cannot be waived by any AP Physics B/C credits.

Math placement test is important if you want to waive MATH 125 & 126 (Calculus I / II) with AP Calculus BC score 5.

Yeah, what NorCalBoy09 said. Engineer majors don’t get credit for physics =[

Yes, I agree that Physics satisfies GE req but does not grant credit for your major.

USC does not seem to let you off the hook. U of Miami and UT Austin are much more relaxed about all this, he could have started off with nearly 45 credits both places and graduated in 2.5 years!!

Ya, but then he’d be going to U of Miami or UT Austin :P

USC said that they reserve spots for incoming freshmen so that they don’t get totally taken by the rest of the school. Also, they close registration off for everybody else so that only THOSE people at orientation can register.

Your son should be fine. He should get all of the courses that he needs (he might / might not get the GE that he wants, but oh well).

Yay, Engineers! Boo AP Physics D<

Thanks Pharm!

Son took the Math Placement test last night and got 39/40, does it mean that he gets to skip 125 and go to 126?

Also, I understand that Engineering students do not have to take the Foreign Language test as they are exempted.

Another question - He has AP computer science credit. Should he still take CS 101?

We are a bit confused because his registration is not until Aug 16th.

Does your son have AP Calc credit? If not, he will be placed into Math 125. Viterbi doesn’t give credit for computer science, so he will have to take CSCI 101.

Thanks W!

Yeah he has got credit for AP Calc AB and BC - both 5. It is showing up on his USC Profile too.

I read somewhere here that Ghyam is teaching CS 101 and he is rather difficult.

With the 5 he got on BC, he can sign up for Math 226 (Calc III). I think Ghyam is the only professor who teaches CSCI 101…can’t escape him =/

Did you take Ghyam? Are you sure you cannot skip 101 ;)

I’m an incoming freshman who will be taking CSCI 101 this semester. They gave us a handout at orientation with the list of classes we can waive with our AP credits, and 101 isn’t one of them.
