Just curious if anyone has tried the various laundry service options that were offered in the orientation package? I find by the time I pay for the poor quality dryers and small washers keeping clothes clean is an expensive proposition on campus. Most of my friends dont have to pay for laundry on campus. Any suggestions?

I don't really have a problem with the laundry machines on campus. It keeps my clothes clean just fine, and I definitely spend less than I would have for the special laundry services offered.

I've now lived at four colleges (two during summers, and all have charged for laundry): Vassar, Northern Arizona University, Wellelsey and MIT. All four colleges had the exact same Maytag high-efficiency washers.

Here were the prices
wash dry
Wellesley 1.00 1.00
NAU 1.00 0.75
Vassar 1.40 1.40
MIT 0.75 0.75

With Wellesley's dryers you can add another quarter to add 15 minutes. However, if the clothes are dripping wet when they come out, that's a problem with the washer and you need to call 1800 Mac Gray to get it fixed.

I've never done the laundry service. People do, and I've seen their bags lying around the various bells desks. I got the impression it cost several hundred dollars, while I probably spent less than $30 a year on laundry (okay, I brought clothes home every so often and dry cleaned/ironed nothing). I do several loads at once when I am out of underwear or socks, and I can cram about two weeks worth of clothes in one washer. I've always thought of the washers as quite big. My mom's definition of a "load" is a quarter of mine.

If you have all this laundry, it has occurred to me you haven't sat down with other students and had the conversation where students confess 1. they haven't shaved in about a month, 2. they shower only 2-3 times a week 3. a pair of jeans can be reworn for about a week straight before it is considered "dirty" 4. the same pjs can be worn even longer. This is what some of the girls who live among you do. Welcome to women's college, where no one cares.

The laundry service is expeeeensive. For 3,000 dollars a year I'll do my own laundry, thank you! Plus, it's part of the whole college experience, you gotta learn to do some things for yourself. :)

I learned the hard way my first week at BC...I threw in my nice new maroon sweatshirt with all my "tighty-whities" which soon became red...ha ha ;)
