Does anyone out there have a son/daughter who applied or will be applying to F&M? My son applied ED I. We are so excited for him! Hope he's accepted.

Any current parents of F&M students out there? If so, I'd love to hear your thoughts about the school and your child's experience, etc.

Thanks!

Our daughter has applied RD - best of luck to your son! Great school!

Hi involved mom.

Best of luck to your daughter too!

For so long our son didn’t have a favorite school, but after an official athletic visit to F&M (his 2nd visit there), that all changed. We are crossing our fingers.

How about your daughter; does she have a favorite school? What is she looking for in a school?

Hi annieroses,

Our daughter doesn’t have a favorite - she wanted to like every school on her list. She is looking for a smaller LAC in more of a rural/small town location with strong academics. She has only visited F&M once but really liked the house system, writing house, new science building, and everyone in admissions - the tour guide was amazing - he stayed an hour after the end of the tour to answer questions.

Involved Mom

Your daughter sounds a lot like my son.

The first time we visited, we were most impressed with the students themselves. They were very enthusiastic about the close relationships they have with their professors, and they all love the college President! I doubt most college students would even recognize their college Prez.
:-)

It’s such an exciting time for our kids, isn’t it? So much potential and opportunity.

Our son is a Freshman at F&M. We could not be happier with the entire college experience thus far. The college is a gem. His classes are motivating, the administration is caring and friendly, and the social environment is excellent. It is a wonderful place!

Thanks craigs2020

That is great to hear about your son. In fact, I keep hearing wonderful things about F&M. Thanks for posting and best wishes to your son for continued happiness there.

My daughter is a senior.F&M is a great school with a dynamic president, one caveat be prepared to work your tail off,no easy A or even B.Sometimes I feel it is unecessarily difficult as every school should have some classes that are fun, worthy and not too super hard. That being said she has had a excellent academic and social experience.

Pelicanbrief

I’ve heard about the workload there. To my surprise, my son is more than willing to accept that fact and take it on without any concern. I’m assuming that the environment breeds a majority of students that work hard/play hard and a mentality of “we’re in it together.” In other words, it’s accepted that everyone is working hard without too much goofing off on weekdays and then relax/have fun on Fri night and Sat, wake up late on Sunday and back to work Sunday afternoon. Are these assumptions pretty accurate?

A pretty accurate assessment and don’t get me wrong my daughter loves F&M , has made great friends, and has tremendously matured, but her friends at other schools work much less for higher GPA’s which is a consideration when applying to graduate schools.

^Thanks for the info Pelicanbrief. I really appreciate it. :-)

Yes, as Pelicanbrief stated, it is quite an experience there. You cannot imagine the rigor until you attend and experience it for yourself. My son was used to an extremely rigorous HS - and then he went to Franklin and Marshall, who redefined the word “rigor”. That being said, he wouldn’t transfer out if you paid him! He does not like to be a “number”, so loves the small campus feel. So, go in knowing about grade deflation and unbelievable work load and come out extremely well prepared to handle almost anything.

Hooray!!

My son was accepted to F&M ED 1. We’re all thrilled!

Wonderful news, annieroses! Congratulations to your son! We’ll be waiting for a few months.

Thanks involved mom. Best wishes to your daughter. Please post when you hear the good news!

Congrats to your son. My son is a freshman and is loving F&M. I can’t say enough good things about this college. My son also applied ED1 which made for a very relaxing and relatively stress free second semester of senior year of HS. Tell your son to relax–he earned it. PM me if you have any questions!
