Any folks out there applying or going?

Just hoping to make contact with some folks who have applied to Earlham, or plan to. S2 has applied EA and liked Earlham a lot. I think it is #2 after Kenyon from which he was deferred.

Love to hear from you!

Sheesh,
After months with nothing on the Earlham board, we were finally getting some conversation going. And now it has disappeared.

So, I resubmit a hope that others will share their experiences with Earlham, either as parents or students, or BF's with GF's there!

Thanks!

My son applied to Earlham EA. Earlham is his second choice after Kenyon. Sounds like that's a popular combo! No word from either yet. Any idea when Earlham sends out their EA decisions? He is going to hold out for Kenyon and hopefully see what merit $$$ there might be at either.

Collegeboard has the EA reply date listed as Feb. 1. I, too, appilied EA and am waiting for results.

yea, and its receive decision on or around feb 1, not mailed feb 1... so it could even show up a bit early

Just for comparison, my daughter applied ED to Earlham. Their published response date was Dec. 15, and they mailed the responses on Dec. 12. My D's arrived on the 15th (west coast).

This is very helpful! So glad some live Earlham-ers are posting!

My daughter (now a first year student at Earlham) got her EA acceptance last year on Feb. 1 on the dot. :-)

How does your daughter like it there? Anything she wishes she had known before she went?

this waiting is killing me, only 6 days...

i think im more nervous because i dont know how they will treat someone who was accepted once and did not go. i did have a nice long chat with the cross country coach last night which eased my mind a bit. ack...

She loves it. She's thriving both socially and academically. She's very, very happy with her choice.

The only real problems have been the food and work study. The food is really quite bad. Much worse than other college campuses that she's spent time on. She ended up bringing more pots and pans and cooking stuff back with her after Thanksgiving break. She and her friends get together at least once a week and cook and they insist that it's the only good meal they get all week.

It was also much more difficult to find a job on campus then she had anticipated. She found a job after weeks of searching last semester but made next to nothing (she had 10 hours per week work study-- but was lucky if she worked an hour a week). There seemed to be a lot of students vying for relatively few jobs. Applying and interviewing for positions used up quite a bit of her time the first few weeks on campus (when she was busy settling in and finding her way around). It added stress to an already stressful period. She did get an off campus work-study job this semester. She probably could have found a job off campus last semester--but has no car and was uncertain about arranging for transportation. It turned out to be easy to get an Earlham van to get her back and forth, but at the beginning of her first semester she just didn't feel up to the extra hassle. So she has hopes of actually working 10 hours a week this semester. The work study was supposed to be her spending money, so things were pretty tight. She was glad she hadn't depended on the work study for book money or to pay part of her bill though or she'd really be in trouble!

Both problems were pretty minor though. All in all she loves Earlham.

I got my early action acceptance letter today. It was personalized and friendly. It feels good to know I will at least be going to college somewhere--Earlham was my safety, but in a good way.

Hi Gloaming,

Congratulations!!! Was it a fat envelope?? How nice that they personalized the letter. We live at a boarding school where they do not deliver mail on Saturday (RATS) so the waiting will be till Monday at least!

Way to go!!

Thanks!
Sort of fat...a few pieces of paper and a sticker on the back.

My son was accepted too! A very personalized letter mentioning his activities and interview! Anyone know when they notify you about merit aid? There was nothing in the letter about it.

aid around feb 15

My daughter's EA acceptance letter was dated Jan. 28, her letter about merit aid was dated Feb. 7. The full financial aid award letter didn't arrive until the first week in April.

My 17 yo applied EA to Earlham this year and she hasn't heard anything yet. Maybe on Monday :-)

Congratulations to gloaming and deb1225's son!

My daughter received her EA letter yesterday, also personalized. The adcom clearly had read her application very carefully. We had visited and did an overnight last fall, felt very comfortable with the kids and the campus. I stayed in a local B & B and chatted with the owner about how much local residents respect and appreciate Earlham.

It will be a tough choice for us, since she was also accepted at Beloit, a school very similar to Earlham.

Congrats, beltrami and deb1225!! Hope we get good news tomorrow!!

Good luck to your son!! Let us know what happens tomorrow! My son is still waiting to hear from Kenyon RD but he was thrilled to get into Earlham. Sounds like our kids have similar taste in schools!
