any free time at orientation ??

Were there any free time at orientation ??
What did you do during that free time ?? how about during the evenings ?
Would I be able to check my e-mail on one of the school computers ?

yes, there was free time. After about 9pm, you're done. You can and should also skip some of the sessions, such as the tour, the library session, Michigan 101, and the financial aid session. They're all very useless, and I mean useless. They don't ever take attendance; just show up for your advising and your placement tests.
In your free time, you basically play cards (you might want to learn uchere if you're not from MI). You talk with people, which for the most part gets kinda stupid. Don't stay in your dorm, cuz it's hot. I also walked around campus for a few hours when I first got there, and then I saw the art fair on my last day. DUring evenings, you play more cards or talk if you're not a partyer. They have some stuff going on like icecream and a movie. Other than that, many go out to the parties. There were some parties to be found, and me and a group of friends found a really good one on the last night. People are really nice and let you in pretty easily. Just watch out when you come back cuz there's a cop standing in front of east quad.
Yeah, you can check your email downstairs in the computing site or in the Shapiro library.
AND, BRING A FAN!!! IT IS WAY TOO HOT TO SLEEP WITHOUT ONE!

It's spelled euchre, and pronounced "yooker", for all interested.

did you guys dorm with your friends from your home town ??
or did you meet new friends there ?
I am kind of scared of having nothing to do alone because I feel like everybodys gonna be from Michigan and have their own group of friends from high school.
=p
How does dorm work for orientation ?? Do you pick your own roommate ?

no you dont pick your roommates. i'm from michigan but i didnt know a single person from my HS at orientation. just be open-minded and nice to people and they'll treat you the same.

yea, free time at night. they show you "Crash" the movie on the 1st night. you do backpacking the 2nd night.

good movie good movie =p

would I be done with the orientation before 2:00 PM on the last day ?
I hear you only have to register for classes that day.

You can be done as early as 10. It all depends on when your appointment is, and how fast you actually register.

How did euchre become just a Michigan game?

And I don't know a single person who liked Crash. I mean, only a few people I know hate the movie, but the rest of them just didn't think it was THAT good. I thought it was okay.

well, most of my friends and my family liked the movie and I enjoyed it also.

Haha all of us skipped seeing Crash. And I don't recall a cop in front of east quad... a lot of people got smashed all three nights in a row and the only person to get in trouble was some kid who threw up in the middle of the street or something. But yeah the frats are very welcoming because they're trying to get orientation kids to look upon them favorably so they'll end up Rushing those houses.

Well, the orientation people liked it. Nothing against it really...just yeah.

And the frats are technically supposed to be closed...

I roomed with a buddy of mine....they assign rooms in order of what time you register. Since we signed up within a few minutes of each other, I had a good friend of mine as a roommate and another friend of mine in the room next door.

I didn't really know anybody when I went, but I met some cool people and we hung out. From about 1am to 4am, there's a female cop who stands near the entrance at the SW corner of EQ. Just be careful. She's pretty chill though. People walk by her quite obviously drunk (like me) and she didn't do a damn thing. Just don't take alcohol into your room, or at least don't tell anybody you're doing it.

Agreed....

One guy I met had a double room in the corner of the hall that was larger than most of the doubles. And he had it all to himself...I would have felt lonely. The first day they space the events out WAY too much so expect tons of people playing that crazy Canadian game or whatever. I'm from Wisconsin and I was kind of surprised when most people knew how to play this foreign game from across the vast lake of Lake Michigan.

there was tons of time!!! I checked out frat parties, clubs, bars, the "safe sex shop", arcade, etc.
A LOT of time!
