Thank you very much. I’m convinced to do my MS at GT this year. Yes, it might b a risk, but i’l give it a try.

Most MS IE students are international and they are hired. But they’re at a disadvantage. This means that you might need to be less picky about your career options until you earn a green card (from India or China, it’s about a 7 year process right now, from anywhere else it’s much faster).

If you have a stellar resume (excellent English communication skills, extroverted, excellent grades), you’ll have no problem finding a job. If your resume is good but isn’t stellar, as an international you’ll still find a job, but you’ll likely have to sacrifice in some way. For example, you might need to take a lower salary ($60,000/year to start instead of $70,000/year) or you might need to work in a less desirable location (rural Illinois instead of Chicago) or you might need to work in a less desirable industry (Pulp and Paper instead of Walmart or Disney).

If your resume isn’t very good (GPA around or below 3.0, poor communication skills in English, etc) then you likely won’t find a job in the US.

Does gender have an impact on job prospects too? Are you going to be at a disadvantage because you’re female? Also, would about a 3.2/3.3 give you a decent job out of college (for IE)? While a high profile job that makes the most money is ideal, I’m going to be a little more realistic and assume that I won’t be “the best of the best” in my class, so would I still be able to land a desirable job that pays reasonably well ($60,000-$70,000 maybe)? Thanks.

If you compare an MS in IE versus an MBA, both from good universities, which would you hold higher?

what is the median gre score for ms in IE at gtech and how well does work experience support your profile, especcially if u are an international student???

also what are the career prospects in operations research and manufacturing concentration and how do they differ from each other??

Any environmental engineering students??? Want to know what are the job prospects and what is the salary scale for environmental engineers?
Also interested in knowing how are the internship opportunities for the summer months for the engineering students.
If you were to choose between Environmental Engineering or Computer Engineering, which would you choose with regard to a) Job security? b) job opportunities, and c) salary?

Thanks.

The only salary survey that has EnvE listed (it’s usually too small of a group) is Fall 2010:

CompE: 100% offer rate, $65,000 median salary
EnvE: 75% offer rate, $51,000 median salary

By the way, I took that from here: [Georgia Institute of Technology :: Salary Reports](<a href=“Georgia Tech | External Redirect Landing Page”>Georgia Tech | External Redirect Landing Page)

They don’t report salaries for degrees with less than 5 graduates, so the only place I could find EnvE salaries was Fall 2010.

Hey, thanks for taking the time to make this thread. I am applying to tech next year, and am hoping and praying that I qualify as a ps scholar semi finalist, and then finalist. Otherwise, based on financial aid, it would probably cost my family around 34-38k per year, leaving me with around 150k debt at graduation. I don’t know if we can afford that, so my question to you is: how much money do you think study abroad/ co-op programs save a student on average? (I plan on trying to do both). And do these programs prolong graduation, or is it still possible to graduate after only 4 yrs with co-op and/or study abroad? Again, thanks for your time!

Sounds very interesting. Are you in GT’s grad school? major in IE still?

Bill1995 bumped a 3 year old thread. I see that I actually posted a question back then, which went unanswered:

Still would like an answer, if anyone knows. Meanwhile, I’m glad this thread got bumped. Some great info so far. If anyone has anything to add, jump right in.

How much free time did you guys all have as IE majors? Compared to other engineering majors?
