Any get accepted today - November 2, 2009?

I was keeping my fingers crossed that my daughter will first of all get in and secondly, might get one of those OOS tuition waivers. Any chance for a student from NJ with 1310/1600 SAT, 3.85 UW gpa and great extra curriculars? Or are the waivers all based on 1350+?

^^I’d be curious about the same thing!

Pierre, I’m hoping you can teach my son about that great bus system and how to take the train. Any hints on what additional scholarships we can apply for or applying for the honors college?

nj_mom: (from clemson financial aid website) “Usually, recipients of Academic Recruiting Scholarships have an SAT score of at least 1350 (ACT 31) and rank in the top 10 percent of their senior class”

Montegut: I’d be happy to teach your son about the train and the bus system (which one? Greyhound? local CAT bus system?). My only advice for scholarships at Clemson is to apply by December 1st and finish sending in all admissions documents by December 31st. Another website that I found helpful in finding scholarships is [FastWeb : Scholarships, Financial Aid, Student Loans and Colleges](http://www.fastweb.com).
As for applying to the honors college, i don’t have any hints because I’ve never filled out the application

Thanks Pierre. I think the first word “usually” is what’s got me wondering.

NJ Mom- I’m a OOS Clemson alum with strong connections, however not strong enough for my daughter, with a 1340 SAT to get the waiver when she applied 3 years ago. When I spoke to admissions back then, they told me that the 1350 was the absolute floor. Each year, depending on the # and quality of OOS applicants, they reserve the right to not offer the OOS waiver to 1350 applicants.

The purpose of course of the OOS waiver is to build the average SAT 50th percentile for the school overall for national reporting purposes. By having very bright OOS kids attend, Clemson has a better shot of breaking in the top 20 public institution list.

That being said, who knows? Perhaps this year the 1350 will be reduced if fewer OOS applicants apply given that even with an OOS waiver, Clemson may be more expensive than a state school for the OOS.

Would that floor of 1350 be reduced based on the number of students who actually attended, or is it just based on the applicants from that year?

I doubt the floor of 1350 will be reduced due to the rising quality of students applying to clemson

My understanding is that the OOS tuition waiver SAT cutoff is based on the strength of the applicants for that admission period. Clemson, like all state schools, is eager to attract OOS acceptances that will trend the admissions statistics upwards in scholastic measures and acceptance %. Therefore, the strength of the instate applicant pool also plays a factor. i.e. if the instate SAT average was 1350, the OOS tuition waiver # would be increased. No need to attract out of state 1350 SAT applicants, you want 1400 SAT applicants to accept.

Now my disclaimer, all said above is speculative following three of my children having gone through the application process.

Got my acceptance today with the OOS tuition waiver!!!

congrats!!

Congratulations sportsguy5! Would you mind sharing where you’re from, your SAT stats and when you applied?

I received my admissions decision on February 16th last year in the mail (it was a saturday).

Today is the day!!! I got my letter in the mail today and got accepted into Pre-Business with an OOS waiver of $56,000 ($14k per year)!!! I am so excited right now!!! I have three questions though: when will I find out about more scholarships? when will I hear back about honors program? and for housing, is it based on when you submitted your regular application or your housing application as far as priority housing is concerned? Thanks everyone!!!

First of all, congrats clemsonfan92, and hopefully we’ll be welcoming you into the Clemson family!

From Clemson financial aid website:
"Entering freshmen are awarded Academic Recruiting Scholarships by March 15 and General University Scholarships by May 1. Clemson begins awarding other forms of aid for freshmen in April for the following fall semester. Entering freshmen with completed applications are notified of their financial aid packages in late April. "
I never got any scholarships from Clemson (not smart enough lol) so I can’t give you that many information about that.

You should hear back from the honors program by February 15th

Housing is determined by the date you submitted your regular application. However, if you want to participate in a living & learning community/program (civics & service house, clemson business experience etc…), it’s based on when you submit your housing application.

ClemsonFan92…You probably already knew this, but just in case, priority deadline for Calhoun honors application was 12/1, w/ all support material in by 12/15.

North Carolina

SAT I Breakdown: 760 Math, 610 Reading, 690 Writing (2060 Total - one sitting)
SAT II: 750 Math II, 670 US History

Applied in late September (received provisional acceptance in March).

New to the forum, and trying to learn as much as we can.

From Michigan and my son got the OOS acceptance letter yesterday. Like everyone else we are trying to learn about the other scholarship opportunities. He didn’t take the SAT but had a 31 on the ACT.

Look forward to searching and learning everything we can.

You’ll hear about honors by Feb 15 IF you submitted your application by December 8, and your counselor and teacher submitted their information by December 15. After that, I think they notify on a rolling basis.

[Clemson University : Calhoun Honors College : Incoming Freshmen](http://www.clemson.edu/cuhonors/prospectivestudents/incoming.html)

Scholarships are made later in the spring, with the National Scholars Program being the biggest. Looks like they notify finalists in middle or late January.

Unfortunately, our county won’t allow schools to send anything via internet. (transcripts, recs…) So, I was told that will delay honors decision until March or April.

I sure wish Clemson could give notice of merit awards sooner. (already have OOS waiver) That may impact decision to attend if it’s down to the wire and we already know early awards at other schools and additional/final internal awards in January.
