what are your interests career-wise?

management & strategy consulting, ibanking, or something like that

The Running of the Bulls by Ridgway
-book about wharton kids, their experiences during b-school with getting internships and career stuff. couple kids go into consulting, few into banking, few into other stuff. A good read.

Market Wizards
-book about trading

Liars Poker
-another book about trading/banking

Money Business
-associates in banking, really miserable there

Big Deal by Bruce Wasserstein
-book about mergers activity, kinda interesting. Good if you're into banking

When Genius Failed
-book about a hedge fund failure, good if you're into trading

i've read all of the above books.

that one seems pretty good for consulting.

just finished reading "Rich Dad, Poor Dad"...it gave a different view on money making. IMO, it was a great book.

Ya Rich Dad, Poor Dad was a really good book.

Den of Thieves

Liar's Poker

The Predators' Ball

F.I.A.S.C.O.

Monkey Business

Trading with the Enemy

Confessions of a Street Addict

The Art of the Deal

Merger Mania

Bogle on Mutual Funds

Add...

The Intelligent Investor

Freakonomics

Barron's Dictionary of Finance and Investment Terms (might be boring, but really informative)

Winning-Jack Welch

Don't see why trading books are mentioned. But if you really want to learn more about it get yourself "Reminiscence of a Stock Operator". Its a pretty interesting book. Just keep in mind that the trader it was based on later blew his brains out.

About Milken> The laws he was charged under weren't even enforced strictly until his trial. They needed someone to take all the blame and they decided it was going to be Milken.

I wish I had time to read more. School is taking over my life!

rich dad poor dad is more of a motivational book than anything else

Mahras what you say is very true. I actually idolize Milken a bit.

I wrote a 20-page paper on him and Boesky.Michael was a very clever guy -- undergrad @ Haas, grad @ Wharton. It sucks that Boesky had to get caught and use Milken as a scapegoat. However, even if Milken was not prosecuted, the junk bond market was going to burst.

Reminiscence of a Stock Operator = very good book.

cacjr> Whenever something new is discovered by laymen it explodes. Naturally it would have burst, however, while in the pre 1980s era the junk bond market was dead it is nowadays a very sizable chunk of the fixed income industry.
Its the same story with the dot coms. Although many of the useless companies bust after the bubble, you still have companies like Ebay, Amazon etc standing.

I agree with southpasdena about RDPD.

Warren> Heh might be the reason why my grades aren't as high as they could be :).

lol Maharas, I am thinking theres going to be a lot of time to read and do some hardcore trading after this year is over.

hehe well trading is another reason my GPA is not what it could be ;). I do some equity trading still (more like invest really) although most of my stuff is in FX. Hopefully I get into college early then I can truly focus.

Yeah, if I dont get in ED, I am going to go craazy.

Yea that would be a letdown for sure. Heres to hoping we get into W so we can chill and talk about trading.

Yeah that would be sick man.

Consulting Demons: Inside the Unscrupulous World of Global Corporate Consulting - very interesting book with brutal honesty and first hand experience from a former management consultant :) jeez its seriously brutal and makes me afraid of consulting but recommend it, you will learn quite a bit about the consulting industry its culture and what it takes/requires/demands of you to survive.

He made all his money telling other people how to make money "easily." You ever see this book being sold on infomercials? It might be good if you have absolutely no idea about money/finance, but this is sort of like reading a kid's book on animals to study for AP Biology. His whole book is supposed to be "inspirational" rather than explain reality. He speaks in generalities and makes it seem like making money is as easy as pie.
