I realize that visiting schools in the summer is not ideal, but can anyone suggest any possibilities where faculty may be available for at least a meeting and at most, a sample lesson - or is the most we can hope for a look at the campus and the facility? My daughter is a soprano and interested mainly in east coast schools, but we have several schools in Ohio on the list and may look at Lawrence.

Last May/June we e-mailed teachers at consevatories (from school websites)in our cities of interest (NYC, Phila, Baltimore, Eastman, etc) and heard from about half the faculty we emailed. We planned an end of June visit to NYC, Phila, and Baltimore and had 2 lessons per school - as well we had tours of the schools. For us - the summer visits were easy to arrange, ideal for our schedule, and helped my son know where he wanted to apply - with enough time to work on the areas pointed out to him in the practice lessons. We do not know Lawrence, however my son contacted several groups of faculty from several Ohio schools - and they were all accomodating. We ended up not vistiting OHIO - as my son narrowed his schools of interest to East Coast

That sounds great - I am perhaps being too bleak about accomplishing much this summer. I'll get D busy with the emails.

Yes check! This seems to be a professor to professor variable. For DD, it seemed that all clarinet professors "got out of Dodge" for the summer so it was not an option.

In cases where desired instructors particpate in summer programs different from their respective institutions, you can always find out where they go and try to have a lesson there. I know people who have successfully done this.
