I'd love to major in Art (Drawing, Painting, etc..) but it's not an idea that my parents are too enthusiastic about since it's a very competitive field and the pay isn't that good (unless you're amazing). So we settled on a middle-point, I'll study Marketing (which combines business with creativity) and can minor in Art (preferably Drawing, but other kinds of visual art are good too).

Anyway, I've only found two schools that are reputable in both the academic and artistic fields: USC and Carnegie Mellon. However neither has Marketing majors, it's more like a general business major, and I'm not sure you can join a Business major with an Art minor in Carnegie...

So, my question is do you know any reputable schools in both the academics (preferably in the business/marketing sector) and on the arts, that offer a major in Marketing and a minor in Art? I'm looking mainly in the 20-30s rankings, but am willing to go below or above that. I think I have a pretty good shot at entering any of those colleges, however below that would be a tad harder. I doubt I could get in any Ivy League colleges though.

Or do you think I should stick with USC and Carnegie? Also, does Carnegie allow you to get a Business major and an Art minor? I'm asking because they hold different "schools" and stuff, so just to be sure :)

USC does have a department of marketing within the Marshall School of Business.

Since you mentioned your interest in art and visual arts, perhaps this joint program at SC might be of interest. Marshall offers an interdisciplinary program which you may consider. It is Business and Cinematic Arts. The degree would be a B.S. in Bus. Ad. (Cinematic Arts).

But can you major in Marketing? I do know they’re ranked #10 on best undergraduate marketing program (according to usnews), however I was told that they don’t offer a Marketing Major. It’s more like a general business major (which includes Marketing, among others). Do you know if they offer this major? Could you please give me a link to it also? :D

I appreciate the help :)

You might want to look into Washington University in St Louis.

Have you thought about a degree in Arts Management? It truly combines Business and the Arts. Check out College of Charleston.

I second WashU. I’m actually doing the opposite thing (majoring in art and minoring in marketing), but they’ve been very receptive to working that out, and from what I’ve heard from friends majoring in marketing, it’s been good. If you want more information about the marketing major, check this out: Marketing. It details everything about the major, as well as some other facets of the b-school you might want to take a look at.

Good luck with your search!

Many marketing programs are not in the least bit creative. In fact, in the college of business where I teach, they are no more creative than an accounting major. Choose your marketing program wisely and make sure it has what you want, as opposed to a strategy/theory major.

Here are the required courses in the marketing major at my university:
Professional Prep in Marketing
Marketing Research
Consumer Behavior
Marketing Management

Electives:
Web Business Strategy
Retail Strategies
Direct Marketing Strategies
Advertising Theory
Sales Management
International Marketing
