Any good creative writing classes for 8th grader entering 9th grade?

I saw the previous thread on Creative Writing which include Iowa; Kenyon etc. but those only take high school students. Do you know any good program for an incoming 9th grader but very advance in writing (won Scholastic award)? Many thanks in advance!

Johns hopkins cty ( gifted and talented program) and Duke TIP.

I don’t know of any programs for grade 9 - my daughter’s high school counselor recommended she volunteer around writing at that age. She was able to volunteer at a summer day camp through our city for comic book writing, play writing, poetry and creative writing. She loved it so much and she did it for 4 summers before going to college.

Her college counselor felt the camps like Kenyon and Iowa are better served for kids with a bit more maturity, as a lot of constructive feedback will be given for their writing and advised for incoming grade 11 or 12. Both programs were willing to review her application, but also said that they rarely accept a freshman in high school and we really didn’t want her to lose her spark that early

Helping at the young camps was a great way for her to still be involved in writing, a lot of mentoring from the instructors and advice plus the kids loved her and it was a wonderful way for her to do something she loved. It also made for a very clear narrative for her college application - so that was a plus.

Thanks much both of you for your kind reply!

We like the writing classes at CTY. Good feedback from instructors. Also, the new Visual Literacy and Visual Storytelling classes will hit the sweet spot for some kids.
