Any Hope for a Cornell AEM Deferree?

Is it possible for a deferred AEM major at Cornell to be accepted (either in RD or thru guaranteed transfer/ spring admission)? Knowing how competitive the applicant pool is for this major with only 133 students accepted, and the bulk of which are recruits and legacies, I have pretty much given up hope. Can anyone either agree with this statement or give me some hope?

Hi
International student who just got accepted for AEM here.
I do believe that you still have a chance.
Just write a letter to cornell saying its still ur first choice.
I think it should matter because I believe most of the rd applicants are probably wharton rejects.

I was a guaranteed transfer who is now in AEM…the fact that you were deferred is a good sign that you may get a GT offer (though there is still a chance you get in). If you can I HIGHLY recommend coming up to Ithaca and personally speaking with admissions officers/ administrators in the Dyson School. Don’t be afraid to show your commitment!

@gigiwave123 Hi, I was also deferred, and I’ve heard that those who receive deferrals tend to receive GTs/Spring admits/acceptances. What is your perspective on this? Do you think that a deferral is a soft rejection or something else? ( Just wondering  )

@NotAMathlete, I think that it means that Cornell wants more data on you (first-semester senior year grades). They also can’t fill up their entire freshman class through ED. It probably means that they think you are a very smart and qualified person, but they want to see how the rest of their freshman class shapes out before they make a final decision on you.

A deferral does not mean you will get a GT, but I do think that it is reasonable for you to maintain hope. If I think back, maybe about 3 of my friends who externally transferred into AEM were deferred and got a GT (there are maybe 40ish external transfers in the program a year). Many people who apply RD also get a GT offer. You also have to factor in people who were deferred, got a GT, and for whatever circumstances did not take it.

@gigiwave123 O.K. That’s really helpful actually. Another question, is there any way we can find out why we were deferred? I’ve seen people posting about calling to ask for the reasons behind their deferrals.

Additionally, will they process our applications on a rolling basis or are we essentially just regular decision applicants now?

Hey guys, so do deferred applicants in AEM have a chance in RD? How many get deferred? Also, about how many get GT? I heard a big percentage of deferred get GT option.
