I haven't gotten a letter in the mail yet so im getting really anxoius. I'm from California and have been rejected from most of the ucs so far. Do I have any chance with these stats?

Ap us history test: 5
Sat 2 us history: 780
Pretty good ecs: drum set, golf, volunteering at a celebrity golf tournament, volunteering at a local hospital
Good essays ( had two teachers read them)
Major: history

SAT: 1920
gpa: 3.38
9 ap classes
ap us history/ap english language: 4
decent ec’s

-haven’t heard from UW either…

I’m still waiting for a letter too
OOS
SAT: 1770
GPA (uw): 3.40
4 AP Classes, around 7 or 8 PreAP/Honors classes
I thought my essays were pretty good, talked about racial discrimination within my family (can’t remember the second essay or prompt, haha)
Good ECs

Boltz17, I’ve been reading around and I think my stats are pretty comparable to yours. I really hope we get letters soon! I’m just so nervous.

Good luck to you Lfcftw as well.

And with my weighted GPA, I do have an “A”. Also, my school is an extremely competitive one, with only 194 kids in the class and even with my fairly ok GPA i’m still only in the third quarter. I just wish the admissions people would see that it’s hard for some of us.

UW doesn’t look at unweighted GPA but they look at what classes you took.

Unfortunately, admissions has a really good idea of what schools in the Seattle area are very competitive (they claimed to have GPA multipliers for some schools and said that a 4.0 at a certain, unnamed school is worth less than a 3.8 at a certain, other unnamed school). Similarly, a 3.8 with many AP/Honors/IB courses at a school is worth more than a 4.0 at the same school with all “normal” classes.

With all the OOS schools, it’s impossible for admissions to really know how hard some schools are except for those high schools that may be very famous. A lot of schools want to say that they’re rigorous and it is very difficult to get a 4.0 unweighted GPA. However, there’s nothing really stopping schools from all claiming that unless they decide to curve down grades and really make it impossible to get a 4.0 (kidding on curving down … think of the riots!).

Handymandy, I feel for you, but I doubt there’s much admissions can do unless your college counselors create a good relationship between your high school and UW.

Thanks speedsolver, a lot of what you had to say really made me feel better about this whole decisions thing.

I guess no matter what, I’m going to have to just wait it out and see what happens. Hoping for the best, but if not, that’s life (life can suck sometimes, can’t it? Haha).

Yep, let’s hope for the best! :)

So speedsolver do you think I have a chance?
Btw an uw admissions officer came to my school and said that they looked at unweighted gpa for oos.

Your GPA is below average, but you had 2 AP classes factored into that. I’m thinking the 4 senior year AP courses aren’t factored into the GPA you listed since UW won’t have the post-first semester senior grades.

Your SAT is okay, but not high enough for me to say that from your stats alone, you have a competitive advantage.

Assuming your essays and extra curricular activities were well written, I think you do have a chance. Since UW looks at the application holistically, those would be a major part of the deciding factor for your case.

So I’m f***** thanks for letting me know I’m getting used to rejection from schools so it’s fine

^ I disagree. Although your stats may not be outstanding, I still think you have an alright chance at getting in.

Yeah, I don’t think you’re totally f’d. I think you have a chance. It just depends on your ECs/essays more than not.
