Any Hopes? :(

Okay, I bombed my first two years of high school. Unfortunately, I am unable to go back in time and correct my past, so here I am now worried as ever.

I am currently holding a 2.6 GPA and I'm a junior. I'm involved in multiple clubs and play Varsity sports (football, rowing) and i feel very confident about the SAT I took about a week ago, and all my English teacher tell me I'm a very prolific writer; so my question to any kind soul who cares to answer is.....

Do I have a decent chance at making the cut to my dream schools?:
USC, UCLA, Rutgers, FSU, or Wake Forest?

Any and all help is appreciated, and I'm sorry if I don't make sense, I'm just extremely worried.

I am sorry to report that UCLA and USC are not likely, but you have other options.

For UCLA you will have to calculate your UC-GPA. It is your 10th and 11th grade academic courses with an extra point for AP and IB courses and Doorways-approved honors courses (OOS applicants may not weight honors courses - only AP and IB). For instate, you must have a 3.0 UC-GPA to be eligible for admission. OOS must have a 3.4 UC-GPA. There is also Eligibility by Examination for those with very high test scores, but to be honest, at UCLA they have so many qualified applicants that it would be a very, VERY long shot with your GPA. UC Merced or Riverside would be a better choices if you are eligible by examination with your GPA. If you are a California resident, the 23-campus CSU system would offer many opportunities that would be more likely for you.

For USC, the average UNweighted GPA of admitted students for 2012 was 3.8 and the middle 50% of SAT scores was 2030-2250. That would be a very high reach. You can certainly apply, but be sure you have other schools where you are likely to be admitted (CSUs or your state schools) and that you know you can afford.

Your other option (besides a CSU if you are a CA resident or UC Merced/Riverside if you are eligible by examination) is to attend community college for two years, do very well and attempt a transfer to UCLA or USC. Both accept many transfer applicants. I do not have information on your other schools.

Good luck.

The best thing if you want to attend any of those schools is to attend a CC and then attempt a junior-level transfer…

Transferring truly is your best bet. All of those schools are unrealistic or reaches…
