Any HS seniors transferring for soph year?

yeah im gonna be a freshman at uci, im probably gonna apply to washu, northwestern. my dream school is columbia, but w/ my ****ty high school grades (3.2), despite decent ECs and an SAT, will probably not get me in after a year, even if i do stellarly at UCI

Ill be a freshman at BC, and see my chances thread that I just posted for the schools Ill probably apply to

Hell yea, I'm definatly going to transfer for sophmore year. I don't see the use of feeling sorry for myself, but damn I have never been through that many rejections in my life all at once. I figured out my mistakes I'm retaking my tests and if you want to be successful join an activity that you did in high school (make that your passion activity). Also try to get over a 3.6 GPA to be competitive!

I have an idea. We're obviously in the same situation. We worked very hard in high school only to get rejected, but yet we still want to try again and transfer. I think we should all exchange myspace or screen names for aol to see how we're doing, advice, and encouragement.

how bout facebook at all the schools we dont want to be at :-P kidding

i think i'm going to try transfering. i got waitlisted at washu and rejected at northwestern and uchicago..but i realllly want to go to one of them. i kept in contact with washu's admission office during that time and after they told me that they aren't taking anyone off the waitlist..would that help me get in next yr?

im trying again for georgetown where i was waitlisted and also to northwestern where i didnt apply but would like to.

I also plan on transferring for sophomore year. Im (kinda) satisfied w/the school ill be attending next year - I actually wouldn't attempt to transfer at all but im completely infatuated w/gtown. It will be the only school I send a transfer app to. I def. wont give up untill I step on that campus as a student! =)

I'm kind of scared about asking for recommendations and letters of good standing. I mean, won't professors and deans come up and say "why are you transferring?" and wouldn't some will refuse to write recs for you? If there was anyone who has gone through this let me know how you did it.

I have read a couple of threads about this (you can also use the search function for those), but generally, everyone says that if you just explain your situation (and if it's a legitimate one), then most professors will understand.

So I need to BS a reason if it's "I want to go to a more prestigious school that my HS grades wouldn't allow me to go to?"

Also, if a school doesn't require a teacher recommendation, should I get one anyways?

my professors were all very nice, sympathetic, and understanding :) i was really nervous about approaching them, but they were great! (this includes those i approached for recs as well as those i approached for mid-semester grades, since i still had to explain myself there...)

sweet like sugar: I'm also thinking about applying as a transfer to Georgetown. Can you PM me? I can't PM you for some reason...
