A. A postpone decision is not a final decision. Please explain why you are requesting a final decision now.
B. Please explain any extenuating circumstances that you feel warrant an admission decision at this time.
Include any significant, compelling information not included in your application.
C. What is your intended major, area of study, or college of interest? Why?

I'm appealing my postponed application to University of Minnesota. So far I've written up some preliminary stuff for these questions but I'm not sure if I'm answer them too well.

For question #1, I pretty much say how I put in my deposit to Michigan State because I got postponed by MN and that I need to get a decision soon so I can request my money back depending on my admission. I also note how MN is my top choice school for next year.

For question #2, I talk about how my senior year grades show how I've rebounded from my poor junior grades (had major health problems that involved being hospitalized for 3 weeks and another month of physical therapy). I talked about my health problems in my application essay so they know about it.

For question #3, I say how I'm not quite sure what I want to major in because there are multiples things I'm interested. Then I go on to say I'm interested in journalism, communications, english, teaching, and food science. I also explained why I was interested in each of those programs.

Am I doing this wrong or what? Anybody have any suggestions as to what to write? The reason I decided to appeal arebecause of the reasons I stated and from reading CC's forums on the MN board it seemed everyone who appealed was offered admission.

Thanks for your time and suggestions!

They ask why you're requesting a final decision now rather than waiting until they are ready to give it to you. Your reason has to do with your deposit to another school -- but that should be refundable up until May 1, right? So you really haven't stated a compelling reason why your application should go to the top of the decision-making heap.

Well it the pdf file it also says

"How do I appeal a postpone decision?
Ordinarily, students appeal a postpone decision in order to bring to light compelling new academic information that was not
previously included in their applications, or extenuating personal circumstances that they feel warrant a final decision right now."

I think my semester grades are "compelling academic information" because it shows how my poor grades last year were merely a result of my medical problems. Last year I earned a D+ and C+ and they were definitely because of my medical issues. Now in my 1st semester grades I've earned a 3.7 and 3.9 for my term 1 and 2 grades, this was also in higher level classes.

I can see how your improved grades and health issues will help explain your appeal, but I'm not so sure about your answer to the prompt:

I don't think telling them about the deposit to MSU is the way to go, especially since MSU's policy is that you can request a refund for the enrollment deposit in writing up until May 1.

If you can, try to support your request with documentation. Get a letter from a teacher/gc discussing your grade improvement. A letter from a doctor or documentation of your health issues would help too.

I hope it works out for you.
