My DS (a HS junior) thinks he will go to law school after college and so likes to know what kind of grading environment he might encounter at colleges he’s considering. He is intrigued by Rhodes (especially by their strong mock trial teams) but so far he hasn’t been able to find any good info on the presence of grade inflation/deflation.
The all campus GPA data I’ve seen for a reasonable sample of U.S. colleges/universities shows a lot of colleges tend to fall into 3 buckets…bucket A at a 3.0-3.1 GPA, bucket B in the area of 3.2-3.25 and bucket C around 3.4 to 3.5 GPA (obviously it isn’t all this clean, but you get the idea). Anyone have a clue which bucket Rhodes’ all campus GPA would fall into?
Email your admissions rep, if they have the info, they’ll likely send it to you. Better yet, have DS email the admissions rep for your area. They like to hear from people and field questions about the school.
Rhodes grading is very strict, in my opinion. I just finished my freshman year with a 3.0 BARELY. In high school, I took all AP classes available, 3.85/4 Unweighted GPA, was involved in many activities…no problem. I had friends at other schools who had lower stats than me in high school, yet were receiving 4.0’s. Another issue is that there are only 4 classes a semester, so one bad grade can really mess up a GPA.
