I've been looking into the University of Advancing Technology in Arizona and its tuitions aren't that bad, 8,400 dollars on campus, 4,900 dollars online. I'm a high school student from Finland and my problem is that there's no universities in Finland that would specialize in game degrees. So therefore I started looking for universities in the U.S. If I get accepted, I will apply for one 10,000 dollar scholarship in Finland, but of course, that's not enough. I'd have to get around 25,000 dollars to pay the whole 3 years of Bachelor degree. So I'd like to ask that are they any international scholarships especially for this kind of studies? I tried looking in FastWeb but most of the scholarships were for U.S. citizens :( If I can't find anything, I'll stick with the online courses, but I would really love to actually be able to study at the university. Thank you in advance! :)

Usually I would recommend to apply to colleges that offer need-based aid, but there are not too many universities offering degrees in game design (that’s what you want, right?) in the first place…

The University of Pennsylvania offers need-based aid to international students but it is very competitive to get into. It offers a degree in “Digital Media Design” that requires courses such as “3D Figure Modeling”, “Computer Animation” and “Virtual World Design”. The largest employers for graduates are Disney and EA.

Do you want to start college in fall 2008 (the current admission season) or later?

^ Go B@rium Go!

Apply to colleges that give out aid & merit money!

I am wondering if you understand the University of Advanced Technology’s tuition policies correctly: Both the on-campus and the online tuition fees are calculated per trimester. In order to graduate in three years you would most likely have to attend all three trimester sessions per year. The cost of attendance for one academic year, including room and board, then is about $40,000!

Even online-classes are more than $15,000 per year.

Yup, I know. But my point was that this is a school I MIGHT afford online. Where as all other schools seem to go way over 60,000, maybe even 100,000 to graduate etc. University Of Pennsylvania… Yeah, very competitive
Well, I guess I COULD try (doesn’t hurt anyone), and if I can’t get in, take a gap year and see what I should do. And yes, I’m aiming to get a game degree, and there’s no universities or polytechnics in Finland that would specialise in such degrees
I would be into Game Art and Animation soooo, I guess the Pennsylvanian degree would be quite close to it. Have to see… My options aren’t too good, sigh. But thank you for the answers, really helped me out :)

I would say do it the usual way? Get a comp sci degree from a LAC/finnish university and do masters in game design later..

Oh and I forgot to answer ur question, yes I would want to start studies next fall 2008 but… I’m kinda late already -_- I postponed my SAT so many times… Was supposed to do it in November at first, then December… Sigh, and now I’m doing it in January. Not good.

jhl, to be honest, I was actually thinking about that earlier… But the thing is that the comp science degrees in Finland have nothing to do with animation/art/games/multimedia etc. They’re more like… Math math math and math. Not even programming -_- So therefore I would like to start these “game” studies right from the bachelor degree. Sucks to be me :P

Finland is EU right? Then you can go to the UK for 6000US per year.. why not UK then? Since you’ve pretty much decided on studying games..
