any ideas on my chances?

hi, im new on this site, but it looks like a great way to get info!
im applying to hopkins as ED, any ideas on my chances?

SAT I (may 05) 720m, 680cr, 660writing
SATI (oct 05) 740 m, 660 cr, 720 writing
highest compositie: 2140
SAT II's: 680 math iic, 660 physics (yea...not that high)

really really competitive high school, top 30%, no rank, gpa is 3.9
5 ap's by graduation: stat, econ (micro and macro), psych, lang, and calc
(not that many cuz my school has like qualifying tests for ap's, so its kinda hard to get in in the first place) but all other classes are accelerated/honors

ummmm black belt at karate, won some tournaments
piano for 12 years, won lots of competitions, played in charnegie hall and steinway hall, accompanist for every music club/chorus possible, won some talent shows in high school
hospital internship
various jobs, usually involve teaching karate
some other school activities: key club, modern issues, french mag, etc.

o yea, came to america when i was 10, dunno if that makes any diff
and my dad went to nanjing university, which is like the sister college of hopkins in china, dunno if that counts either...and if it does, my grandpa has been teaching there too, for like 35 years.
o, and i have a rec from my piano teacher who's alumni at peabody

ok thats bout it, if anyone has any ideas, please lemme know, greatly appreciated, thanx!!

1st generation always helps if thats anything/

make sure you write good essays, something that stands out especially for the $10 one

gpa/rank might hurt but otherwise its looking high.

yea i kinda knew my ranking was baaaaaad...
for the piano and karate stuff, i do have leadership as well, like i'm president of musiCares club, and conductor/teacher to my hs chorale (the elite singing group), and i teach special needs (physical/mentally ill) children. o and im sending in a piano cd. and karate tournament includes nationals in 2004, dunno if thats a big diff...
o i forgot, i visited the school and have an interview scheduled
please lemme know, i appreciate any help!!

sorry i dont think u have what it takes

may i ask ur reasoning? or perhaps an explanation?

Nanaijuh - I think if you have a wellrounded application, you should have a decent chance. JHU is not as strict on GPA and scores than some other schools I know (laxfan, PLEASE don't tell me this is another rumor!! haha, jk, but i'm pretty sure this one's true....)

Jus do your best and hope for the best!! =)

**don't listen to HarvardBound99...something tells me there's something fishy goin with that person/account. but you beat his stats any day anyways ;-)

nanaijah, as a current Hopkins student, I think your chances of being accepted are quite good. There are weaker points in every application, but that's just how it works in the application process. Your "weak" points aren't even that weak. Though you may only be in the top 30% in your class, the admissions officers will recognize your school as very competitive, and that will be taken into account. The karate and music help to make you stand out, xtina06 (as far as I know) is correct about JHU not being as strict on GPA as most of the top schools, and I think you have a lot of material with which to put together a phenomenal essay. Have confidence in your application, don't worry too much (although it is nearly impossible not to, I understand), and let nobody divert you from your dreams.

Harvardbound99 isn't exactly Harvard Bound, anyway, unless he's referring to some Harvard Community College of which I am not aware.

cytosis- would u mind giving us your stats?if you don't want to, no biggy, but it would be somewhat helpful for me to see what at least one jhu student's hs profile was. thanks in advancE!

ok, forgive me if it takes some time to get them prepared. I'm going to give you a detailed profile, so you know just about what they knew.

cytosis--did u apply early? because actually, i wanna to write about psychology too, but it's nov, and i've only had psychology for 2 months. do they care about that? because i wrote about physics, which i took last year.

cytosis applied early and got in early ~

xtina06 is right ^_^, and they shouldn't care about how much experience you have in the class, but about how it has affected you.

thanks, cytosis.
