Im going to be a Junior next year in a nice public high school in the bay area, and what I am worried about is that I heard colleges only look at sophomore and Junior grades. I took every advanced class possible sophomore year, but in our school there are no AP classes for sophomores, only for Juniors and seniors. I am taking 3 (out of 4) AP's next year but I dont know what to do senior year. I have straight A's, but no matter what my weighted GPA wont be any higher then a "measly" 4.2. If I take a bunch of AP classes senior year, will they factor in the first semester when they count GPA?

first off, i believe that colleges look at your Junior and Senior year, not sophmore. Colleges also look at the available courses that your school provided, i.e: how many APs, gifted, or honor classes were available and how many you took. If you took advantage of that opportunity then, you are considered to be a "good" student. I would advice taking the last AP class senior year, you did say 3 out of 4...so your school only has 4 aps? if you can't get the last, 4th AP class, then consider taking an honors class or some gifted class. if your school does not provide you with such, then you obviously already took advantage of whatever you could. In my h.s, we have gifted programs as well as many AP classes, i am a senior now and I am in a gifted Humanities program and currently have 3 AP classes. Junior year, i took 2 college classes at a local community college,Brooklyn College, for free, throught "College Now" program, instead of AP classes. So in total i have 5 college level classes down. I do not know about your area or what is available to you there, but try to take advantage of what you have. Also, about your GPA...is it our of 5.0? i am not used to that type of gpa, but i am sure it is not "measly". Remember that if you have rankings in your school, that is also important. Every h.s is different, and your AP classes may be weighted, that is, they will be counted more/heavier than your regular classes and this may give you a little boost in the gpa. Other h.s may have them unweighted, so it will not do anything to your gpa, except give you exactly what you have. Colleges understand that AP classes are demanding, and will value your participation in them. Although i have to admit that i am shocked that you said 3 out of 4...do you mean your school only has 4 aps?

Thank you!!!

Edit: No we have a bunch of APs, only 4 AP's for Juniors and Im not taking APUSH because I cant stand history

well, i hope i explained things good enough...good luck with everything, i know how hard h.s can be.
