ANY incentive to work for straight A's as a second semester senior?

Can’t think of any. If you’re not going to a super competitve college, that is. Hmm I just don’t know what to do with myself…

That's what I thought too...but then, i dunno...i know i can slack off but i still don't want to even though i absolutely hate what im learning now and want to drop out of all my courses lol
i guess i just got used to getting good grades in school and its just rewarding doing well

besides, you don't want to get in a bad habit

Incentive for straight A's second semester = being a Type A

My friends and I actually conferred on this issue the other day; we all came to the conclusion that we couldn't let ourselves slack off by definition (Type As, all of us), as it'd be worse to face the consequences of doing nothing rather than to work. But, that's just us. :) Enjoy your second semester senior-dom, macramequeen - I'll be living vicariously through you!

Even after being accepted into college, some will monitor your progess and if you manage to show that you work through to the end there is a chance that some day it may pay off, then it again it may not. So basically if you fill fatigued relax a bit and if you get a "B" to two don't sweat it.

if you end up transferring in the next 4 years, colleges will look at all of your high school grades as well as college

If class rank is a big deal for you (like if you get scholarship money if you're in the top 10 or whatever) you might want to keep your grades up.

haha dean's list. it's a force to be reckoned with.

why not just for the heck of it? I like to see myself succeed and I woudl want to finish up my high school career w/ straight A's.

i agree with masha. i'm making it a personal goal to get straight A's this semester.

When is the last time high schools calculate rank? Isn't it "too late" by the time the end of the second semester rolls around? If so, a class valedictorian may not actually be "number 1".

my school counts all grades except the last quarter. So I've still got about 9 weeks that count.

macramequeen--I'm also not going to a supercompetive school, but I still like the feeling I get from working hard, learning, and getting good grades. If you continue working hard through the end of senior year, you'll be better prepared for the much more rigorous work that college entails. If you laze around for the rest of the year and don't pursue anything intellectually stimulating over the summer, your brain will begin to atrophe. Then, come fall, you'll be totally overwhelmed with the workload.

macramequeen--what college will you end up going to? Just curious.

personally, i cant think of any incentives to make really good grades second semester either. all the things people are saying are about personal satisfaction, but i get more satisfaction from not being stressed.

in some classes if you get an A you may not have to take the final because you'll still end up with the same grade even if you fail it. Also you can graduate with honors.

Wait lists.

in addition to being a perfectionist, i'm striving for straight A's so i won't have to take the final exams! :) that is one school policy that i absolutely LOVE!! :D

As far as college is concerned... no, there's really no reason to. If you have a goal of finishing in a certain rank though, or you need certain grades for scholarships, then that changes things.

... how do you get the same grade in a class if you fail the final or if you get an A on it? Do your schools have policies where the finals don't count? Or you don't have to take them if you average an A all 4 quarters? My high school didn't have anything like that, but the senior year finals were pretty slack. I only had a couple tests, the others were projects or essays.

The class rank at my school is 9th+10+11+first quarter senior year. I don't mind getting B+'s, but I don't think I'd ever let myself do too bad.

Plus, are you taking any AP classes? don't you want to do good on the exams?

Class rank at my school stopped last semester.

And I already know where I'm going to college.

I guess the reason to keep working is I'd feel like crap if I didn't.

No! Let's all slack off!
