I consider myself Asian but specifically brown.

@AnImpAffliction I feel the same way.

When you’re taking a standardized test and filling out the personal information box, do you check “Asian” and think, “this isn’t right…?”

No, because it IS right. I am Asian. We are Asian. India is in Asia. We are Indian. Therefore we are Asian. End of story.

That was for the white people who constantly tell me I’m not Asian.

Can we bring this back?

Yeah

Incoming indian reporting. @AnImpAffliction , I get that crap all day

I feel your pains and struggles. It’s like any time we have a family conversation at home it’s always school, studies, comparisons, colleges, etc. Never anything like a normal family.

I know this is unnecessary but I just wanted to say:
I love Indians
You are amazing people
I love you all

~not an Indian but everyone thinks I’m one so I guess that counts

Oh, hello everyone! @lovelyshores, hahaha you’re welcome to join. What race are you?

So last night my Chinese friend and I watched 2 Hindi movies: Chak De India and Taare Zameen Par. She’s in love with Bollywood movies now.

I like gulab jamun.

Gulab jamun is the best.

@AnImpAffliction
I’m sort of Assyrian haha.

I think the only Bollywood movie I’ve seen is that one Cheetah Girl one, and actually I don’t even think it was made in Bollywood…

HAHAHAHAHA, that was not a Bollywood movie. That was a Hollywood movie TRYING to be a Bollywood movie.

Yoo, I’ve never met an Assyrian before! That’s really cool!

Well hey it made me want to go to Bollywood one day haha.

And thanks! However I meant to say I’m sort of SIMILAR to an Assyrian, I’m not exactly one. It’s kind of hard to explain…

But yes there’s the pressure in my community to do well in school yada yada whatever become a doctor lol.
And then there’s their conservative minds that value men more and think they’re the best. My parents aren’t like that. They don’t pressure me. The only pressure I have is to prove to people that girls are not less of men, so that’s why I want to become something big. I’m sick of the stereotype that women have to stay home, do all the crap for their husbands and nothing for themselves. That’s my problem with my race. :-<

Tare Zameen Par was hella sad, but still a good movie.

We should also do some Indian introductions. My parents are from Maharashtra, and our family speaks Marathi and English. For the most part, our family is pretty chill compared to other Indian families. For me, at least, my parents don’t pressure me to get good grades because I stay on top of all that and manage it on my own. Although, my parents are putting a bit of pressure on me to get good SAT scores (2000+, which I am extremely close to). Our family does discuss colleges, but not in terms of comparing to other kids’ choices. In our school/town, there isn’t much diversity at all (We live in a predominantly white suburb of DC). There’s competition, but not like, super high SAT scores/comparison/many competitive asian areas competition.

For the most part, I don’t have many Indian problems.

And y’all rest indians?

Do your parents allow you to date? Do they have any restrictions?

HAHAHAHAAHA my parents would murder me if I had a bf.

I’m scared to say the word boyfriend around my dad

do your parents bribe you to get good scores/win awards/etc?

mine only give empty promises :|
