I applied EECS and I’m probably not going to get in because I didn’t get an interview.
unfortunately, it looks like no chance without interview. In any case, 30 spots is low probability.
I had my interview today!
Batwing, how was the interview? Did it probe the application as the email said, or more general? Thx
It was more general. Turns out the interviewers don’t have access to the application, so you basically have to introduce your background to them. 20 minutes isn’t a lot of time. I wish I could have had more time to explain my stuff to him, but it went well. Now just gonna sit back and wait for my decision.
Batwing, About how many questions did they ask in those 20 minutes? Were all the Qs about what you have done or did they ask about current events etc.?
Batwing, thank you. Who conducted the interview, an alumni?
If they did not have access to the application or the stats, they could not have known any incompleteness in the application as the email from MET claims, and also seems like no specific questions. Sounds like interviews that most private schools conduct, and other than MIT, not mandatory.
My sons interview was conducted by a Berkeley prof. He did not have any questions from the application. 20 min was too short.
Does anyone know if they would select 20 to 30 for eecs and ieor met combined or is it for each of the program?
Batwing99, what were your stats?
The total, EECC+IEOR is between 30-50.
NJparent2000, thank u. That is helpful and different from alum-interviews. Could share a bit more about the questions and topics that were covered? Thank u.
In general questions were based on your interest, commitment and your leadership, maturity check, thinking skills.
NJparent2000, Many thanks. Very helpful. It looks like these interviews are definitely geared towards more qualified students, but maybe to double check on a few attributes, if essays unclear. The fact that it is done by a UCB as opposed to an alumni is also telling. My conclusion: if u got an interview, ur chances are higher to get in than if you did not. However, for those who did not, there is still a chance if application very string and essays plus EC demonstrated maturity, commitment, thinking skills, and leadership. Congrats to all that got an interview. My son did not get one.
NJparent2000, what were your stats?
@Orl520, 15 AP, high sat, college courses, some research, internship and job experience. Essays avg. no exceptional skills.
NJparent2000, what do you mean by thinking skills and maturity? How do we demonstrate that?
@Orl520
10 APs (all 5s except for one 4)
Okay SAT (2270)
Pretty good grades
NHS, a few clubs, one officer position, varsity tennis, etc
Two college math courses Summer 2015
Summer Internship Summer 2016
Probably the strongest part of my application was the fact that I taught myself a few skills like iOS programming, Android programming, and circuit board designing, and I have worked on a bunch of fun projects in my free time. These projects have included creating apps, Messenger bots, and designing development boards. I’ve been able to make money off of my apps and have gotten substantial downloads, and I launched a crowdfunding campaign for one of the boards I designed. All of these projects have been either computer science or electrical engineering-related (or a blend of the two), and they have had a business-oriented goal. Lucky for me, Berkeley’s MET program was introduced the year I am going to college, and I feel like I fit the mold pretty well.
PM me if you want more info.
Batwing, thank u. You have been great with information. Who conducted the interview and how were the questions?
