any info on University of Dayton?

Hey I am just wondering if anyone knows about University of Dayton... I love the campus but I just want to make sure how the social scene is.. how are the aprties, how frequently, etc.

Can you tell me what the neighborhood is like? Thanks.

This is the uni that spams my email... They keep sending me invitations to apply up until just 2 weeks ago!

My good friend's son goes there and loves it ... he is very involved in ROTC.

There's a pretty strong chance that your state's public universities would be just as good or better. What state do you live in?

I lived in Dayton for the last 8 years and loved it. The town itself is pretty dirty overall but have good spots. The town is based of factory work, mostly GM, and has gone way down hill since GM laid off a bunch of people. The bars/clubs are decent, depending on what your used to. Real homey though. 5th street aka Oregon District is where you'll find most of the bars which isn't to far from UD. I bartended and bounced at Ned Peppers for a few years. There's other things to do but gets old fast. Most of Dayton is Drink, work out, drink. UD is a good school and offers a lot. There's also Wright State on the other side of town in Beavercreek, which also is a good school. Lots of partys. I recently moved to Louisville,KY and like it here better as a city but the people and friends there can't be beat. Can't complain though, I love that town. :) If you decide to go or visit PM me and I will tell you the good/bad places to go and the fun things you can do there.

Social scene is said to be pretty good. After all it's a Catholic school in a decent sized city.

Dayton's notorious for being a huge party school, mainly cuz there's not that much to do in the location the campus is in. I know a few people that go there who say the party scene is good but can get way out of control and the people are really immture. Just what they said, I have no personal experience.

I attend UD and will be graduating in the fall, it is a good school, but like any other it is what you make of it. There is a pretty big social scene on the weekends, people party in our student neighborhood, which is a section of houses for upperclass students. I think most kids who go to UD have a pretty good time!

Thanks all. Does the neighborhood UD is in have a lot of crime? Also, er3465, how religious is the school, and can someone who is not Catholic be comfortable there?

The crime isn't that bad but overall Dayton's crime rate has gone up due to a large number of people being without jobs now.

Dub, that's sad. Thanks.

Northeastmom, as Dub said the crime in Dayton the city is not the best, but the UD campus is very safe. It borders Dayton on one side and an upper middle class neighborhood on the other, it is a safe campus, but like anywhere you need to be aware of your surroundings. That being said I have never felt unsafe while living on campus. I have several friends who are not Catholic, and I know they have all had good expericences. There is a basic religion class, 103 that everyone is required to take, but there is a Catholic and non-Catholic option. Also you are required to take 2 or so other classes (depending on you major), but there are many to choose from like Islam, Buddism, ethics, etc. I did a quick search of the website, and I could not find a percentage breakdown, but non-Catholic students will be fine.
