I really like the freedom of the Whittier Scholars Program but don't know much about the college other than the fact that it gives excellent merit aid opportunities. The Whittier forum is absolutely dead so I decided to ask the question the question here; Does anyone know anything about the academic quality of Whittier? I am looking at it as a possible safety (I already have a financial safety state school) and was wondering how it is compared academically with my other options:Lawrence, Kalamazoo, Beloit (I am aware that there isnt going to be very many application overlaps with these institutions seeing as they are in different areas).

Hi, College XC1993.
My older daughter went to Whittier, graduating several years ago. She considered doing the Whittier Scholars Program (where you create an individualized major) but ended up being a double major (Spanish and Sociology). She thought the academic quality at Whittier was very good. She really liked her years at Whittier. Her professors were instrumental in her getting an excellent job right away. After working for a few years, she was accepted to grad school at an Ivy League college and just finished her masters in Regional and City Planning. I can’t compare Whittier to the midwest schools you mention. I hear that Lawrence has an excellent music program. Whittier has a music program, but I don’t know much about it. Good luck.
