What do you mean 'plan'? Are you being recruited? Playing for Vermont, in Hockey East, is no joke. Bemidji, while not exactly one of the best teams in D-I, is still D-I.

If you're thinking about walking on for a D-I team, especially Vermont, I'd have a backup, because your best situation would be being used as a practice player.

I would have to agree with the previous poster, D-I schools recruit and offer scholarships. Although it's not impossible to make it as a walk-on, it is very, very difficult. As for some of your other choices, Elmira and Manhattanville are in the ECAC West conference and are both top hockey programs in D-III. St. Norbert also has a very strong tradition as being one of the best D-III hockey programs in the country year in and year out. Wentworth is a good school with solid hockey, but not in the same category as the other three. I don't know about Iowa.

Why would someone being recruited by UVM be willing to play club hockey at Iowa State? My impression of club sports is that sometimes players show up, sometimes they don't if they've got something they'd rather do. That's a far cry from the UVM varsity.

You won't have this kind of list after a year or two of juniors. I suggest that you take whatever comes your way after juniors. Maintain a good rapport with your coach as he will be integral in getting you opportunities and serving as a recommender. If you want to forgo the college hockey experience or just play division three, you don't need to play juniors at all. You might find, like I did, that hockey will always be an important part of your life, but unlike mini mites through high school graduation, it will no longer be your identity. Best of luck.

Thanks for the input guys. Sorry my post wasn't all that clear. Ive been playing junior A for quite a while now (5 years) and all those div 3 schools have pretty much asked me to commit for next year. Bemidji and Vermont have not seen me play but asked for some game film that i recently sent out, so those are possibilities if they like what they see. Basically I was just wondering if academically one or any of these schools really stood out from the others. I am interested in possible majors in engineering or business

No offense, but you're being very vague about their interest. 'Pretty much' asked you to commit? What does that mean? They either did, or they didn't. As far as BSU and UVM, they asked for film, but that doesn't mean they'll offer you a scholarship.

I mean pretty much as in they asked me to apply for their school and said once i get in we will decide on scholarships/financial aid. I said that Bemidji and Vermont were possibilities if they like what they see, they have talked to my coach and seem interested and if they are then they will offer a scholarship, so i believe they are possibilities until i hear a no.

Whatever you say, but I find it a bit fishy that someone who is considering playing club is getting a scholarship to a top 5 Hockey East team...

This does sound somewhat fishy but all the best of luck to you in your pursuits. As far as academic prowess is concerned, none of these institutions stand out as being especially good, but everything depends on the department in which you will major. Certainly these places must all have their respective strong and weak departments.
